Asurion Deception

I just received an email in my junk mail folder from Asurion on behalf of AT&T Protect Advantage, notifying me of my enrollment in their activation of this device at a rate of $15/month. When I finally got a rep, named Hannah, on the phone, she informed me that when an existing customer upgrades their device, the plan is automatically added. Be advised that they are also force placing device coverage for all of your other AT&T devices in your home which comes with an additional monthly fee. She told me that "it has always been that way", yet when she looked at my wife's device, there was no coverage in place on it. That tells me that this was not an existing policy, but has just come about within the past year or so. Not sure how far this goes back. She said it is up to each customer to call in, cannot be done online, and speak directly with a rep to get the coverage removed. I am copying and pasting this message on the FTC complaint website immediately after I post this comment.

File your complaint with the FCC, not FTC. I am quite sure what Hannah told you is false, adding insurance automatically is not policy nor is anyone forced to add coverage for all devices. How exactly did you upgrade? We see complaints of insurance being added when not requested often, but it's not because its policy.

I already filed on the FTC site, and I will also add it to the FCC site. Thanks

I changed my plan and was also signed-up for this insurance, without my knowledge. Now trying to get it removed, but am not able to get a hold of anyone. Hours on hold. What a scam.

This works best through the Myatt app.

Sign in to your wireless account, then select My Wireless and click on the device.

Then select Manage Device & Features and you will see the most recent features you have. Click on Device Protection and it should allow you to make changes.

Click Remove at the bottom of the AT&T Mobile Protection Pack.

Click on the “Continue” action button to confirm plan cancellation.

If you have multiple lines with individual insurance, you must repeat for each device line

Exact same thing happened to me this week.  Traded in 2 phones and got an email 2 days later saying I was on the hook for $17/month for each device without ever being made aware of it at the store.  100% scam.  Called the store and they call it an "opt-out service" meaning they are supposed to tell you that you are automatically enrolled and you have to opt-out.  Total bull (Edited per community guidelines).

For anyone else that got slime balled by this freaking company, sign into your account and opt-out under the manage device add-ons page.

If you received an email from Asurion on behalf of AT&T Protect Advantage, informing you of automatic enrollment in their device activation plan and additional coverage for other AT&T devices, it appears to be a recent policy change. The representative you spoke with, Hannah, mentioned that customers need to call and speak with a representative to remove the coverage. If you feel it is necessary, you can proceed with filing a complaint on the FTC complaint website.

Att employees anonymously report they are asked to add insurance by their store managers.  The target is 70%.

At&t and asurion need to send out a clear message that cramming these onto customers is not sanctioned
