Unlock a U318AA phone from AT&T

my 98-year-old father's Windows phone can no longer be charged. I bought him one of the "senior citizen" phones but he cannot use it since he is used to touch screens and this phone uses arrow keys to make selections.

i received a U318AA phone from AT&T for due to the upgrade to 5G. I do not need to use that phone so i wanted to repurpose it for my father. Unfortunately, he does not use AT&T and does not want to change providers - at this age, he doesn't want to change anything (which is why i did not upgrade him from the Windows Phone in the first place).

I tried to unlock this phone but was not able to.

i get an error that says something like "It looks like your device is not an AT&T device". the phone has AT&T stamped on the back and i got it from AT&T

what can I do to unlock this phone so my father can use it?

The free phone from AT&T cannot be unlocked until it is eligible.  The Calypso was sold as an inexpensive prepaid phone so require 6 months on AT&T prepaid service before it will be eligible to be unlocked. No, there is no workaround or exception.  (AT&T didn't send out free phones just so you could use them somewhere else)

The Calypso also has limited LTE specs. This means it will not work at all on Verizon or any of Verizon's mvnos, T-Mobile may not allow it either -  did you check the IMEI with t-mo?

4G LTE (Domestic): 2, 4, 5, 12, 14, 30
