Phone keeps dropping new cell booster.

I recently switched my work phone AT&T.  I get 1-3 bars of service without the booster but figured I would give the new booster a try because I would like to make sure I have good signal and live in a concrete block house.  Home internet is Gig Fiber so bandwidth is not an issue.  I registered the booster and after about 10-15 min and a phone reboot I connected to full bars as I did with my other LTE booster from a different provider.  All lights and status show good from the booster however very frequently I look at my phone and I have no signal only wifi.  After about 5-40 min the phone goes back to full bars until it drops again.  If I leave the house and come back sometimes I connect to the booster right away other times it takes up to an hour to reconnect.  Using an ESIM on my iPhone 13 Pro Max.  Really frustrating as my other LTE booster from different provider has been 100% reliable for years across multiple phones.

You probably didn't need the booster at all and should be using Wi-Fi calling. I would suggest you unplug the booster, turn on Wi-Fi calling and see how it goes.

@burristc You are using another femtocell from a different provider at the same time, or did I misunderstand you? You can't, or shouldn't, use another type of femtocell or cellular booster in the same area as AT&T's Cell Booster (which is a femtocell, not a cellular booster) because you can get conflicting signals.

Your phone will automatically connect to the strongest signal that it initially detects when in range, whether it is cellular from a tower or cellular from the Cell Booster. And, as you move around your house, that strength may change so the phone will always be looking for a strong signal to lock on and connect to.

1-3 bars of intermittent signal strength is a fairly wide range so that's why your phone will have issues finding the Cell Booster. The Cell Booster works best if you have 1 and maybe 2 bars of maximum signal all of the time.

I would use WiFi-C (WiFi Calling) if you can because it is more reliable than the Cell Booster. One of the issues I discovered while I was testing the Cell Booster for AT&T is that my phone(s) would not always connect to the Cell Booster when entering our home. With its predecessor, the MicroCell, that was never and issue. The range of the Cell Booster is much wider than the MicroCell but the LTE signal propagation appears to be subject to more interference than 3G signal propagation of the MicroCell. Location in your home is also key for even distribution of the signal.

Basically, I have a VZW LTE home cell booster that has been 100% for the past 4 years for other phones in the house.  Since switching to AT&T for my Work phone I got the AT&T booster as well.  They are about 10ft apart.  The AT&T One just seems like it won't stay connected to my phone.

If you no longer have a Verizon cell phone in the house, you do not need and cannot use the Verizon cell booster. Please unplug that.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, unplug the AT&T booster and use Wi-Fi calling which is off by default. You must turn it on and verify your 911 address in order to use Wi-Fi calling.

I still need the VZW one for my wife.

@burristc  The Cell Booster will use whichever LTE bands and frequencies are allocated for your service area. If there are overlapping LTE bands and frequencies from the VZ unit, you will have issues and there is nothing you can do about that.

Being as you have intermittent outside cellular signal coming in and you use the VZ unit in close proximity then I would strongly suggest you setup WiFi-C (WiFi Calling) on your phone and not use the Cell Booster. As mentioned by @formerlyknownas , power off the Cell Booster, and setup WiFi-C on your phone and see how that works.

Hey there @burristc, we definitely want to help confirm why you're losing connection with your AT&T Cell Booster.

We certainly recommend the suggestions provided by @OttoPylot and @formerlyknownas as these are very helpful details that may resolve your concern.

In the meantime, we'd advise for you to provide us with the exact make and model of your AT&T Cell Booster so that we're able to provide device specific troublshooting and support.

We look forward to helping and assisting further and let us know if the suggestions provided by our ACE's worked for you.

Thanks for seeking help from the AT&T Community Forums.

@burristc  ATTHelp won’t be of much help if they don’t know that there is only one make and model of the Cell Booster and Cell Booster Pro 🙄. They are essentially the same.

I would power off the Verizon booster, disable WiFi-C if you’ve enabled it, and make sure that WiFi is enabled on your phone. Then, power off the Cell Booster. Power off your phone and then turn it back on. See what the cellular signal strength is and what cellular signal you are getting. That should be the outside tower. Also make sure you are connected to your WiFi.

Next, power on the Cell Booster and wait for all of the lights to turn a solid white. While close to the Cell Booster, turn off your phone, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on. If your phone registers the Cell Booster as part of its cellular neighborhood, you should see the 4G/LTE light flash on the Cell Booster, the signal bars should be full strength, and your phone will display LTE as the cellular signal.

If you turn the VZ booster back on and try to use it at the same time as the Cell Booster they should be at least 50’ apart due to interference. Even if the Cell Booster eventually works for you there will be issues as you move around your house. You will probably have to use WiFi-C on your phone and keep the VZ booster for your wife’s phone. Speaking of VZ’s booster, it is not a secure device so just be aware of that.

Post back your results.
