Only in Washington state?

Just talked to AT&T, and they stated that it’s only available in Washington state in store. They won’t ship any out, I’ll have to wait until it’s offered in my state which is Hawaii.

Anyone else got that reply? Or got their device mailed to them?

@LostinHawaii  Probably incorrect information. Washington and Idaho were two test states that the Cell Booster was sent to months ago for consumer testing. It could be that being as they were test states, that AT&T has deiced to release the Cell Booster to those stores earlier than everyone else. This is AT&T so there's no telling where the logic is in what they do.

If you were a previous MicroCell user with an active account, you were sent a free Cell Booster, regardless of where you live, around January/early February. AT&T sent out emails to most of those folks just informing them to expect one in the mail. A second email was sent out recently to some of the current MicroCell users who were missed the first time around. With those emails, the folks had to click on a website link so that they could order their free Cell Booster. That link has not worked well so there are lots of ongoing issues with that. I received mine weeks ago as did a lot of previous MicroCell users.

The Cell Booster will go on sale probably around mid-March to anyone who wants to purchase one. The cost will be $229 for the Cell Booster and $699 for the Cell Booster Pro, which is intended for Enterprise and First Responders (FirstNet). My guess is that the Corporate Stores, besides AT&T online, will get them first and then the Authorized Reseller Stores.

Don't expect any of the stores to help you with setup or answer any questions you may have because most of them haven't a clue as to what a femtocell is. Oh, and the Cell Booster is a femtocell, just like the MicroCell was. The Cell Booster is not a cellular booster.

Read my Tech Guide, link is in my sig line for info on the Cell Booster.

They are not available to buy anywhere as far as I'm aware. It's been said they may go on sale in March sometime.

There was a pilot where Washington state was included. The people who are getting them now are ones who had activated 3g microcells that need replaced to prevent no service after 3g shutdown, or those that were invited for some other reason.

You can try to go to https://att.com/AcceptMyDevice put in your info and see if you qualify for one now.

Some service areas still are not covered so even if you and your plan qualify your area may not and the site may not work right for you.

Thank you gentlemen for the information, it helps.

i got the first microcell from AT&T because trees grew and I no longer was in a service area.

I was told I’d get the new one, but who knows. So many conflicting comments from AT&T. My old one still works even though they said it wouldn’t after February 15, but that date changes also.

I’ll just wait and see I guess, once again thank you.

Tuesday February 22nd was the date to shutdown 3G along with their microcells. No idea what time of day.

So...it may not work come Wednesday.

The only thing I can suggest aside from your already futile calls is try https://att.com/AcceptMyDevice and see if it works for you.

@LostinHawaii If the trees blocked out your cellular signal, and that's why you had to use the MicroCell, then that may still be a concern if the interference (trees) have grown since then because the connection requirements for the Cell Booster are a bit tighter due to LTE than they were for the MicroCell (3G). Just make sure that you have a direct ethernet connection to your router and that the antenna is firmly connected and that the receiving end is either attached to a window (with a clear view of the sky) or on the window sill.

What kind of internet service do you have btw?

Spectrum is the only reliable internet service on the island, we’re severely limited in Hawaii.

If you have Spectrum internet and we could be using wifi-calling and therefore would not need a "cell booster" /microcell

Just turn Wi-Fi calling on in the settings on your phone.

@LostinHawaii  There were issues with the MicroCell as well for some Spectrum users in Hawaii. In fact, Spectrum/Charter had all kinds of issues on the Mainland as well with the MicroCell.

I agree with @formerlyknownas , if you can do WiFi-C that would be a better option for you than the Cell Booster provided that Spectrum offers you robust WiFi.
