Settle old AT&T accounts

I am trying to add a line to my cellular service, but I am unable to because apparently I have outstanding balances for DirecTv and uVerse. How can I go about settling these or setting up payments so I can add a line sooner rather than later.

Apparently when AT&T does not inform you when they sell an account to a collection agency. You get a thousand calls from a collection agency claiming you owe AT&T money but when you contact them they no longer find the account. American Big Business at work. Turned in the equipment and paid what I thought was the last bill and moved out of the service area only to get hounded by a collection agency. Very bad way to do business when you have my number, new address and telephone number. I will never use their service again being that I can not afford to have collections on my credit have a government security clearance. Never again.

@fjaros I believe I called the number given above for instructions on what to do to settle my collections. With your situation, I would definitely call the main AT&T number and speak with a manager to dispute the charges.

Disputing something from October of 20 is going to be hard 9 months later.

After an hour and a half I was in contact with the collection dept. Hope all is solved as she said. They stated that I should wait a month and call back to verify.

Thanks for your input! My fingers are crossed!

please be advised that there is a dispute in the amount of $291.08 for which I am awaiting resolution. I talked with Direct TV and received some credits of which I applied against my balance. I sent in a payment of $432.16 today. Since the dispute has been going on some time no penalties should be charged to my account. I was told approximately 4 days ago that a Supervisor would call with a resolution. STILL WAITING!!!!
