Promise to pay off sprint bill to switch and it never happened

I was approached in Sam's club several times  while entering by 3 AT&T reps. I decided one day to hear them out. They said they pay any old bills off with my previous carrier if I switched to them. I asked the young man again to make sure I heard him correctly “That if he would pay my old service off bill”.  He even had me call Sprint. After going through all of that. I decided to go through with the transaction. Only a few months later receiving a bill for Sprint. I went back and told the rep about it at Sam’s club and he assured me it would be taken care of. Now I’m seeing it on my credit report.

The people manning the kiosks at Sam's or Costco or BJs are NOT AT&T employees but work for a third party company like Smart Circle.  They are known to make deals that AT&T cannot or will not honor.

Under certain promotions, you pay the Early Termination Fee to your previous carrier, and AT&T gives you a credit on your account for it.  AT&T never, under any circumstances of which I'm aware, ever has directly paid another carrier the ETF.

You have to submit the documentation to AT&T to show the ETF fee on a bill to get the credit.  Did you do so?

You have to pay the previous carrier the ETF fee.  If you don't, then they're likely to report you.

The friendly people who you talked to at Sam's Club are not employed by AT&T.  They're likely employees of Smart Circle, who staffs the cell stores in Sam's and other places.  They are even less likely to be 100% up front about the details of the various promotions.

Get out your paperwork from when you signed up.  Assuming that the promotion you got actually had an ETF-payoff clause (and, to be honest, I don't remember them running one of those in recent memory), and it's not too late to submit the documentation, do so.  And pay your previous carrier.

There has not been a switch offer from ATT for years. If the offer was real, it was probably either from Sam’s Club or Smart Circle but I suspect the offer was a lie.

I wasn’t aware that this was a 3rd party or I would have never did the deal. These people are good at what they do. I should have used my gut instinct by the desperation of consistently approaching me when I went in for business shopping. I have been researching and found many similar stories. Now that I have been made aware of the company Smart Circle. I have to inform others to stay aware from things like this.

I'm having the same problem.  they promised me that they would settle my devices with T-Mobile and now I'm being charged and I'm at risk of my account going to debit collection.  And I have proof that the AT&T rep promised me I wouldn't have to pay anything.  He texted me everything.

There may be some sort of reimbursement to you. But absolutely positively nobody else but you can pay your old carrier. It's not permitted.

If there was any sort of reimbursement or credit from AT&t you can ask about it by contacting AT&t directly. But they are not going to pay off your T-Mobile bill. That is entirely your responsibility. And if you don't want your credit damaged I suggest you do it before they send it to collections.

Any promotion from AT&t to help you reimburse the amount you paid T-Mobile has to be claimed, and may not cover everything that you owed. Typically it only covers the cost of phones.   I believe the only offer they have is the in-home switch which is offered because you also switched to AT&t internet service as well as wireless.
