Data Plan Ripoff
I have a shared family data plan with three phones and have been a loyal AT&T customer for over 20 years. I used to have a shared 6GB plan but several years ago AT&T discontinued that plan and stated they would "upgrade" me to the 12GB plan. I should mention that our data usage on the AT&T network is minimal, as we use WiFi most of the time. The 6GB plan was more than enough (even with a teenager) and the 12GB plan doubly so. Naturally, there was an upcharge to go with the 12GB plan, but I accepted that as a fair deal as we were getting more data (again-not needed, but OK). That was fine for several years until just recently when they increased our data plan by over $12 a month. No upgrade, no improvement in service, just a HUGE increase for no reason. Well, after a few inquiries, I discovered the real reason: AT&T is now trying to push all their customers to the unlimited data plan (which costs significantly more per subscriber) and they are in essence punishing their other subscribers for staying with the lower data plan. In essence, I am subsidizing their other customers. Needless to say, I am feeling somewhat beat up and bullied. AT&T has shown its true appreciation for their loyal customers by hitting them over the head with a whammy stick. We are not all wireless addicts who stream 4k movies 24/7. Some of us just use it as the tool that it is when needed. We should not be punished for not being wireless crack-heads. This is just plain corporate greed. I have lost all respect for them and will be seeking an alternative provider as soon as I am able. Customers like me should violently abandon them in droves so it hurts the same way they hurt us. They are pure scum!

Hello, @btamburri! We understand how an increase in price can be frustrating.
There was an increase by $12 a month, beginning in June 2022 to allow us to continue the great wireless service you expect. The benefits of the current plan you are on allows unlimited talk and text in the U.S., mobile data hotspot, and AT&T ActiveArmor security.
We will submit your feedback regarding how you feel towards the price increase.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

"Great wireless service"? Most of the time, I barely get enough of a signal for the data to work at all. I "expect" much better.

AT&T offers a 4 GB plan for $40/line per month for three lines or the unlimited starter plan for $45/line.
You can always look at other providers who offer a variety of plans, depending on what service works best in your area.

You can't be serious comparing a wireless data plan to gas. This is a service, not a supply/demand-driven commodity resource. A $12 (it's actually more with applicable taxes) price hike (actually almost 20%) for the same crappy (Edited per community guidelines) service is just plain profit gouging. We're also not comparing a cost from 50 years ago, this is just in the last few months. They've got the highest subscribership in their history, so they really need to squeeze customers that don't want/need their most expensive service? Next thing you'll be telling me is it's OK for them to implement "dynamic pricing" like concert tickets or airlines. GREED is why most things are more expensive. Read a newspaper.

"AT&T offers a 4 GB plan for $40/line per month for three lines or the unlimited starter plan for $45/line."
Both options are more expensive and the first is insufficient so not really viable. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
"You can always look at other providers who offer a variety of plans, depending on what service works best in your area."
Doing that as we speak.

So it sounds like even after a $12 price increase, you're paying less than customers on the current plans. And getting 3 times the data allowance as the 4 GB plan.
Sounds like you're getting a really good deal, to me.

Do I think I'm "more" important? No. I never said I was. But after 20 years of staying loyal to one carrier, I would expect a bit more consideration than getting head-whacked with a huge price increase for something I barely use. It's a response like that exposes AT&Ts real feelings towards its customers. For their sake, I truly hope you don't work in customer service.
