Cancelling my account after moving overseas

I've moved to Indonesia for a while now and didn't realize my phone was still going on even though I thought I had already canceled it. I now have suspended it but apparently AT&T is still charging. I won't ever use this account again and I doubt i'd move back to the US so I probably won't care, but if possible I would like to settle the bill and cancel the account cleanly as the notifications are very bothersome.

I checked and tried to make an international call using a useable phone number but the call was ignored multiple times. My old phone number from the US is already suspended, and the chat function is completely useless since it only suggests me to make an international call, which I can't make. What should I do? Why did they make making a payment and terminating an account so difficult? At this rate i'll just forget about the account forever since I haven't and won't use it again.

If home phone means the basic mobile phone people carry around, then yeah.

Home phone is not mobile.

You have to call their international support line as their normal support doesn't accept international calls.

International Calling, Roaming & Data Plans | AT&T (att.com)

For questions while roaming outside the U.S., contact AT&T by calling +1.314.925.6925, a free call from your AT&T wireless phone, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If it's a post paid account (you got a bill each monthly) on autopay or a prepaid account, the easiest way is to cancel the card on file.

If it's a post paid account that's not on auto pay, don't worry about it. It'll get canceled eventually and go to collections, but if you aren't going to back to the US, who cares?

Hello there @Citizenwhomovedoverseas, moving is not easy so let's take a closer look into the cancellation of your AT&T account.

In the meantime, as stated by @MicCheck we would need to determine what type of account:

  • Post paid?
    • You will receive a bill monthly
  • Prepaid?
    • Cancels after 60 days of non activity

We look forward to assisting you soon. Thank you for reaching Community Forums.

I do receive a bill monthly, but i've already moved out a while ago and i've already disabled my american bank. The bill doesn't charge anymore and last i've heard was overdue bill mail for an account I thought was already suspended long ago itself.

I don't mind paying off this, though I no longer use the account at all if nothing else for closure. This should be 'post paid', and it's a mobile phone. I can provide the number and any other details i can provide if you can help me disable the account, and i'd be happy to pay off what dues I have, as while I won't be moving back I also don't like being in debt.

I hope you'll see this reply then. Thanks for actually reaching out.
