Bait and switch ( fraud) by at home mobile salesman

I signed up for ATT home internet fiber which I love. I left Spectrum.

The day of installation, an ATT car pulled up and an associate Greg( i have full name) walked up to me. After discussing my current mobile plan he promised me a lower price than spectrum.

He showed me the out the door price on his tablet. I signed up.

When the first bill arrived it was 20 dollars higher than promised. I called customer support and they said wait a month or 2 and it would come down. It did not.

I called customer support and was told that there was nothing they could do but submit a ticket. I knew this was a pharse but i went along with it. A few minutes later as i checked the status of the ticket it had been " sent back" then closed.

I called and texted Greg with no response.

I then drove 40 minutes to an actual ATT store. Waited 15 minutes a supervisor.  She said all she could do was contact Gregs boss for a resolution.

Greg called. After he stumbled through my account( mistaking my home internet account as a second mobile account) he stated he saw the problem and that the discount he promised me was not there. He said to give him a couple of days for his supervisor to get that put on my account. I have tried calling and texting multiple times, Greg ignores me.

Today ( 1.5 weeks later) i called 611. The agent was very nice and tried to be helpful but instructed me that my account was receiving a 10 dollar credit for a bundle. I informed her that the bill " out the door" as promised is still now 13 dollars more than it should be.

  I have 2 issues.

1) the inflated bill that was sold to me at home and promised at a lower price. Coming to my home and lying to me. Promising one thing and delivering another ( bait and switch). I am trying to avoid involving other entities in this but ATT is leaving me no choice.

2) the fact that with mobile sales these swindlers are apparently a separate entity from ATT in some way. It has become a third job for me to just and try and recieve the service promised at the price promised. And yes the reception for phone and mobile data are horrible almost everywhere. The store switched sim cards which helped a tiny bit.

Mobile sales is pretty much a scam at this point. The bait and switch and the runaround or passing the buck of responsibility by ATT is beyond ridiculous. The shady behaviour regarding the mobile sales person that i did not request is deplorable.

When i canceled my spectrum phone they offered to let me keep my price even without home internet. Spectrum has some areas of outtage...but they were 10 times better than this ATT mobile service as far as coverage and speeds. Now, because of the deception of the mobile ATT uninvited sales, i have horrible service and a higher bill.

I guess I have no choice but to start contacting other entities to assist me with rectifying this fraudulent sales situation.

If you added wireless when you had internet installed, you should be receiving a 25% discount. Are you seeing that?

Other than that, what price were you told and what are you seeing? What plan do you have?

Sad to say but there have been many complaints about these in home sales reps. You are lucky in that your bill is only slightly higher than quoted. We see complaints about bills being much higher than quoted. In any event, your best chance at resolving is to escalate to corporate by filing an FCC or BBB complaint. The complaint will result in someone from corporate contacting you. So what discount was promised that wasn’t there?

Sandblaster...

The discount for the bundle is there. It is 25%. The issue is more of what the salesman promised.  I have my own unlocked phone. And he put me on the starter plan according to the customer support.

He asked questions and " found the best thing fir me" according to him. I told him Verizon had gotten me in the past on taxes and fees. I asked him what the " out the door"  price after everything was.

He quoted me 35 dollars. I was shook. I literally said there is no way. He showed me his tablet with the price of 35.

I asked how...being in doubt.  He told me he had applied a discount.

Since I had 45 a month from spectrum i started to believe. So I agreed. Put in the sim....and the rest i told earlier.

I do know he said the regular price of the plan would be 55 a month. Apparently this was false too. The customer service agent told me 65.

After checking the internet...the starter plan can be 35 a month...if you have 4 lines added.

There was no mention of this at the time of sale and I only found out by going to an ad page for ATT so this is my best guess.

Regardless this guy showed up uninvited, unexpected, and promised this service at 35 a month regardless of whatever type of bonus he was apparently making up.

The fact i ditched spectrum based on his lies especially after they offered to keep the same price which would be about 25 cents more but had much better service and speeds really irritates me too. The money isn't breaking me. If i fell for this in a store..then bad on me. But for him to have come here to my house, unasked, and swindel me is unacceptable.

Im going to take your advice. I have dealt with the FTC before and gotten results.  I have used the BBB...they are...ok.  I might contact local news as well because they get results as well.

Thank you for your replies!

Hope you all have a blessed day!

UPDATE:

to add to the shadiness of the salesman Greg Joyner in the Raleigh Durham area.....

I called customer service again. The agent called him. He said for her to call back in 15 minutes since he was busy with customers.

She was great..called me..attempted a 3 way call twice....she was unable to reach him..surprise surprise.  This is what he did to me. After he knew it was me...he ignores you. He only called back the one time he had to because the store called whoever his boss was.

You can always switch back to Spectrum.

Anyway, I second the suggestion to file a BBB or FCC complaint to get escalated to someone who might be able to help.

I don't know where he was getting $35 from cuz that's fiction unless you had 4 lines, it would be $35 each, plus taxes and fees, minus the 25% for having fiber internet.

Start for one line is $65, plus x5 or $6 for taxes and fees.  25% off 65 is $48.75 for a single line.

Ballpark $54-$55 with taxes and fees included.

Since you have your own phone, you are under zero obligation to stay with at&t. You can Port your number back to Spectrum, you can Port your number to prepaid service. Really if you're buying your own phone, the only reason to pay for postpaid service is so that you can roam outside of the United States and use international roaming plans which are frequently not offered on prepaid.

Formerlyknownas....yeah i kinda figured that. Thats why i am upset.  He was clearly misrepresenting the price...i was out there for 45 minutes asking questions...which he apparently just lied as replies to my questions. If the service was great..I'd stay. But being lied too and bad service...i can't do it.

Thank you for the info...i was about to google that question.

As for the other reply...i can't go bk to spectrum now... i just checked they refuse unless i go bk to their fiber which is horrible here with outtages for hours or sometimes days.

Thank you all for your suggestions and taking time reading my mini drama.

At the beginning, ATT rep told me to wait for 3 months last year. Now they told me that the 25% is only for new customers. Big lie!

ATT not honoring 25% off on wireless bill for internet customer

ATT has not honored 25% off on my wireless bill as an internet customer since I switched my wireless service from Verizon to ATT in June 2021.
It was the promotion that I switched my service. ATT had agreed that my case has met all the requirements. At beginning, the ATT representatives just asked me to wait for a couple months. Now ATT gave another reason saying that I am not a new wireless customer. LOL, I am certainly not a new customer since my case has not been resolved for more than a year.

@gte470q Do you have an unlimited plan (not Value Plus), autopay, and paperless billing?
