AT&T Sales Reps ARE LIARS who can sleep knowing they screwed over someone for their sale, AND NO ONE CAN HELP THERE, NOW I AM SCREWED....

Short story long, I was approached by door rep, advs I currently pay about $475 for 4 phones, internet & cable.... Rep is shocked and says that is crazy high and quotes Cable $110 and internet $85.31, we will call it $200....... promised gift cards for the switch (Transaction 1). Phone guy shows later with install guy, I was asked what I owe for equipment, IDK so he says log in, takes my phone, looks at the equipment balance, never says how much or shows me, but says, "Oh yeah, we can do that!"

I had new Galaxy 21, A13 and 2x iPhone 13's that had been not even 3 months old. says straight trade for his phones of the same, except iPhones where we got 14's.  Give guy 5 PHONES and told monthly total was $170-something, call it $180.  So new monthly total for me is roughly $375, sounds better, sign and agree! All should be good right?!

WRONG! within the first 24 hours I had internet issues, 3 of 4 phones had issues, the total I paid on the 27th was all I was told I would be charged till the following month, and I had 1 bar of signal 95% of that time.  On the 28th, account hit for $109.99, and internet didn't work down the hall. I was lied to minimum of 4 times in my 1st day with them.

Within my 10-day window, I had spent well over 3 hours with customer service, had issues verifying account while holding the paper the rep filled out for me with all my info and temp pin/passwords EVERY CALL!!  I was told to call other number and/or was transferred for EVERYTHING like all my questions were always some other departments issue and they couldn't help, when asked for my phones back and to not do the switch give a phone number to call where I can go find my phones that were taken, and 0 of 2 sup call backs received.

So much more to write, here are the cliff notes:

*Told over and over wrong prices, couldn’t explain why I was not getting quotes amounts

*Called 2x a week asking for explanation of why my $375 I was told was actually average of $541.93 and when I should have paid $1,501.24 based on my quote, I had paid $2,16.71 which is $666.47 more than I should have.

*WITH THAT AMOUNT, internet shut off 2 times in 1st 4 months (I tried to refuse to pay until I got an explanation and never got answers, or sup call backs, and strong armed into complying, forced to pay or lose my job as I need the internet.

*They REFUSE to pay my old company off claiming the gift cards I got for switching internet and cable was for the phones company, which was nowhere near what I found out I owed. I have proof in emails and snail mail showing not one gift card said for phones, it was internet and cable and the email I have saying upload your last bill from previous company is not something they even have as an offer.

*Paperwork gives me credit for 1 of 5 phones I turned in and they have no record of my other 4 phones, and I owe full price on all 4 lines.  If I want to get out of this crap company, I need to pay $2,500 and can keep their refurbished phones that came with no offers to even buy screen protectors or cases which I have always bought with new phones (I don’t expect those free and know I must pay, but I wasn’t even offered anything).

*Also, it was suggested that if I wait 10 months, it would be cheaper to break my contract and buyout.

*One time when internet was shut off, 32 calls totaling 407 mins on the 7th and 8th for me to be forced to pay, or go 2 days without pay, after not getting the issues fixed, or call back on the 7th.  THAT IS 6.78 hours of my time, BUT!!!! I DID GET $7 Waived in the end (That is what they said, I still got that and the additional restore fee on my next bill and no credit)

*Had service guy come to home and tell me that my signal dies 15’ away from router and that is why the room 16’ and 22’ away from router can’t get signal but purchasing an $100 mesh router seemed to solve the problem of course.

*Found out that I didn’t need to buy the box I was paying and could have not spend an additional $100 which they snuck in on my bill at $10 monthly so I shouldn’t have noticed.

*And this is just the halfway mark with even more to type, but I am stopping here and PLEASE AT&T ASK ME FOR PROOF, MY BOOK REPORT IS READY!!!  BUT YOU WONT CALL OR HELP.

*I honestly got to where I was so sick of not getting anywhere and called back with valid answers and supporting math as to what they were saying that I threatened harm to AT&T knowing a cop would have to be called and sent to my home for terrorist threats 2x!! (I KNOW THAT’S BAD AND I SHOULD NEVER DO THAT, but I was getting nowhere but screwed over and forced to pay) BUTTTTT STILL NOTHING BACK, so here is this additional attempt for someone from there to call me and explain this madness I was forced into that I know will look at my book report and honor their emails and promises, IDGF what this that or the other thing that may have been messed up on your end when I have it in writing in your emails and mail, KEEP YOUR WORD AND REFUND MY OVERAYMENT, REVERSE FEES AND LET ME OUT OF THIS CRAP AT&Fee JUNK Company, please!!! I rather use calling cards at nonexistent payphone then give you $1 more!!

Unbeknownst to you, these door-to-door salespeople are NOT. AT&T employees but work for a third party.  Their reputation is not great.  That being said, some clarity is necessary…..

AT&T does not sell “cable”.  DirecTV Stream was once a part of AT&T.  UVerse TV and ATT TV were sold before that.  What kind of “cable” were you sold?

Next….did you actually GIVE your 5 phones to this person?  Did he hand you replacements on the spot?  Sorry, you will not/cannot get your phones back.  They are gone.

All AT&T promotions are posted online.  If you cannot verify the deal offered to you it does not exist.

AT&T does not pay off phones or buy old contracts so yes, any gift cards received would have to suffice.

Did you actually threaten someone and have the police show up or was that a joke?

All of that being said, file a report with the BBB or FCC (how-to available online).  Those are handled by the OOP.  Someone should reach out to you to straighten your mess out.  Word of advice: Dial back the drama.  Your frustration is understandable but it can get in the way of a solution.

@formerlyknownass  What is your take on this?

@skeeterintexas

I'm going to quote you, caveat emptor, buyer beware.

Filing a better business bureau complaint would be the way to go.

If the original poster did actually make a threat I can entirely understand why they don't want to deal with him. Very immature.

@I_HATE_ATnFEE  You fell for the equivalent of a cold call. Just to refresh your memory your mother may have told you when someone contacts you, you never give any personal, financial or identifying information like your social security or your bank information. You only do that when you contact them because then you know who you're dealing with.  This is financial and security 101 that you failed.

 "But he had ID"

Yeah and I'm sure somewhere Chris Watts has a coffee mug that said World's best husband and father.

Why am I thinking of the movie "Secondhand Lions"?  You can always listen to door to door sales people. But you should not buy from them.   Nothing that was offered could not have been acquired if you had gone directly to an AT&T store the next day and asked for it.

I'm still trying to figure out why they handed over five phones for four phone lines and four trade-ins.   It's a one for one trade for new phones in order for the new phones to be free/discounted.

And why anyone would switch to a service provider without knowing whether or not the service provider works in their location.

I know for a fact I'm in a T-Mobile dead zone. I switched one line to AT&T to test it before switching all of my other service lines.

This 'door to door salesman' should have set up your new phones to activate them with your AT&T service before you hand it over five phones.    It would have been very apparent when you had one bar of service that AT&T wasn't going to cut it, at which time you turn back the four phones, keep your five phones and switch service back to your old service provider.

Nowhere in the original post does the original poster say that he was told AT&T was going to pay off his previous provider for the 3-month-old iPhone 13s.  (At&t doesn't do that).

I don't know who did this sale, but they botched it very badly. As an existing AT&T internet customer you are/were eligible for 25% off of your wireless, and your trade-in phones would have been good for four new phones from AT&T, for free or at least deeply discounted with $1,000 off via bill credits of $27.78 every month for 36 months.   $200 in credits for each phone line switched maybe a lump sum, but the last I heard it was being paid out as a monthly credit against each phone line $5.55 credit.

The original poster seems to indicate they've been a customer now for 4 months. Any credits on phones, and the 25% discount, and the autopay and paperless billing discount should have all kicked in by now.   The premium plan would be $150 plus taxes.  (200 - 25%) Bill credits of $5.55 would cover at least half if not all of the taxes and fees.

Sorry about that!  😆

It may have been too much of an extreme comparison  though 🙁

You said you were lied to 4 times in the first day. That should have been your clue to cancel immediately. Also, you were NOT forced to activate service with AT&T. Nobody forced you.

I assume the original poster meant they didn't know they were being lied to until later on.

It is unclear what they were told, but none of it sounds like they were lied to. They just received bad information from someone who does not work for AT&T.

Fiber internet at 300 MB per second speed is $55. DirecTV full package with sports is $85. I believe upgraded gig speed fiber cost extra but I don't know that it's $110 versus $55.   Fiber is symmetrical and superior to cable internet. I wish we could get $55 price or fiber at my house.   I pay more than twice that for Cox cable internet.

All of the stuff for wireless it was offered was a genuine offer, it's all published on AT&t's web page. They just dealt with somebody who doesn't work for AT&T and didn't know what they were doing.

It's hard for folks to admit they made a mistake and got scammed or were taken in by a salesperson who just didn't know the product(s) they were selling.  It's so much easier to blame the other guy. It's like talking to a roofing contractor rep who calls his boss in your presence to ask if there is anything more they can do for the customer, and of course there is. Same for door-to-door salesmen. It's always best to confirm your self whatever you are being told. If it's a one time deal and has to be done there right now, walk away (or close the door).

@Sprinklesontoast, I don't get the reference of giving my personal info out? Where did I state I did that? If you're referring to how my bank was hit the next day, I believe that was when I set up autopay and put in my info for the payment I made after combining the accounts together and saving my payment method, I couldn't tell you, but all I did was show my ID to rep 1.

As for the fake threat and that part, I didn't do that till the very very end because I have got no where with anyone, spent ridiculous amount of time on the phones, never got requested call backs, continuously left hanging and dragged along, going into stores and them being able to do nada but tell me it sounds like I have been screwed, but am stuck now, and being told if I want to reach anyone from corporate, then send a letter to Texas....

I am not sure about you and anyone else in America, but with this elder abuse going on in the joke house, me not being in Ukraine, or crackhead friend of hunter, I am back to eating like a single broke college new dad athlete days!

Going from thinking I was able to find a way to reduce how many plain noodle meals 3x a day I would have to stomach the last week of the month, to now having to replace 1 of the daily noodle meals with large glasses of water, isn't something I was okay with. So yeah, my bad for trying to survive in this stellar economy we got going on here in the free for now country. But honestly, why am I in the wrong for agreeing to something and then when it doesn't go the way it was agreed too, and I can't get any help or solutions, then forced to pay what they demand all while my old account from previous company is now in collections and will eventually effect my credit score, or get new service and now have 3 monthly payments Vs just the 1 I should have. Either way I am getting a credit ding and overpaying agreed amount while having an additional bill for my phones I don't get to have back.

The trade in wasn't exactly a 1 for 1 as it sounded in original post, but everything said and done and trade in value and promotions my month was what he quoted and why I said yes, and I did get phones on the spot.

Whoever said I should have checked the bars/signal before he left, you're correct, I  should have checked right away.  In the future, I will:

1. Never answer a door to a salesperson and

2. Never have an install and transfer at the same time while teleworking and trying to get network switched to log back into work. Or

3. Start smoking Crack with Hunter and/or move to Ukraine.

Leaning more towards #3 honestly, sounds like a good time on a vacation!

….and the drama continues.

You have been advised to contact the BBB.   There’s nothing that anyone here can tell you.
