Your Customer Service is terrible, and your sales practices are deceptive
Good Lord! What a lousy experience. I've been a customer for 17 years, and now I've just received (multiple times) some of the worst customer service in my life! I upgraded my cell phone, and was told that by trading in my old phone, I would get a $700 credit towards my new phone. Well, after purchasing the new phone, I was told that my type of plan does not qualify for the phone credit. Nobody told me that when requesting my upgrade. When asked if they would return my phone, and I'll continue using my old phone, I was told "It doesn't work that way". When I complained requested a manager, I was hung up on. When i called again, I gave up after waiting 45 minutes to talk to someone. Problem was never resolved. Absolutely terrible. AT&T, I have a choice of carriers, Such as Verizon and T-Mobile, and I think it's time to use their services. You clearly don't care about me.

Umm you are only cared about as much as the next stranger. This is a public forum of other customers, not official AT&T support.
If you cannot get resolution over the phone then try a BBB complaint. That goes to the corporate level which usually results in contact back. Be aware that like other companies they are dealing with short-staffing since the pandemic. Should be getting a bit better, but with the shift in work options not many people want to commute to be tethered to a phone all day where they deal with unpleasant calls on occasion. (and let's be real, people perfectly content and happy are the least likely to call).

Did you look at changing to a qualifying plan? You didn't say what plan you have, but if it's an old plan, the newer plans might be less expensive, or at least less expensive than paying the full installments.
