Transferring Beneficial Ownership - Legacy Account

I am trying to transfer beneficial ownership of my son's mobile number and billing responsibilities to my son, but the account does not show up as eligible for transfer when I go to www.att.com/tobr, despite all payments being current. The account is a legacy Bellsouth account and I have not switched the plan to one of ATT's newer plans. Would appreciate any ideas to make the mobile number eligible for transfer.

This process typically requires following specific procedures established by the account provider or financial institution. These procedures may involve completing forms, providing documentation, and complying with legal and regulatory requirements. The exact steps and requirements for transferring beneficial ownership can vary depending on the institution and the type of account. It is advisable to contact the account provider or financial institution directly for detailed instructions on how to initiate this process.

If you haven't switched plans since BellSouth was bought out, it's possible you are set up to pay in arrears (service is provided before the bill date). AT&T plans have been post-paid (bill date is the first day of service) for some time and that's required to TOBR. If that's the case, you'll have to change to a new plan before switching. You might find that a current plan is much less expensive as well.

That said, are you sure you haven't changed plans since the year 2000? No one on your plan has a smart phone?
