Promotion for Trade-in

It was in May, 2023.  Place, Costco San Marcos, CA.  The issue was a promotional situation where AT&T stated that if you bring you old Cell Phone that was in good working order, you could trade it in for a new Samsung A23.

I went there and talked to the AT&T rep. who was down from LA to help the team on site.  She told me that the promo was still active and what I wanted to do.  So I turned in my LG phone, in which she took and and gave me my new A23.  I filled out all the paper work by giving here all the information in which she filled out on her IPAD.

I went for about 4 months believing that this was a done deal.  Recently, we just signed up for AT&T services for our home, in which I was reviewing my Bill and I noticed that I was paying for the A23.  I went to AT&T and told them about the deal that I made and they said that that deal never existed and that the LG phone I turned in wasn't acceptable.  I feel that I was misrepresented by the AT&T representative and that by charging me now for that deal that was represented to me was a fraud.

I thought the loyality department would mean something in the big picture, but I guess I was wrong.  These Cell phone rep's can do or say anything and nobody holds them accordingly.  I am one person in this cell phone world, and I can understand the massive numbers involved, but again, the rep. was representing AT&T, the trade was held in a COSTCO, and I feel slighted by this whole thing.   I could have purchased a phone somewhere else, I could have done many other options, but now I am locked into the payment of this phone, when I was promised a Free phone.  I understand that nothing is really for free, but in this instance, I felt that I was tricked into a payment plan that I didn't deserve!

Any promotions are published online.   Pretty much any old S class Galaxy phone would have been eligible for the trade-in deal on a new s23.

Costco is not AT&T. The people that set up those kiosks in Costco work for a third party franchise. They are frequently known for lying to customers, or at least exaggerating what the offers are. If you have a problem with what you were sold which appears not to have existed, take it up with Costco and the kiosk

What was the exact date of your purchase?  The Galaxy promotion ended on May 15th. And was not reinstated till sometime in June

And A23?  No.  An a23 is a budget phone.  $179.  Any deal on the a23 at all would not have required a trade-in.  But it had to be advertised

S23, yes.  There has been Samsung Galaxy s23 series offers since it they came out in February

LG trade in?  Very unlikely an LG phone was trade in eligible.

The trade in was on May 4th.  If AT&T is a bogus Kiosk, someone from AT&T should notify Costco.  They are selling phone and providing services everyday, so how could they not be legit.  The rep. was dialed into AT&T with all of my information, so how could they not represent AT&T.  She took my LG phone and said it would work, what was I supposed to do, tell her it was a bogus promotion.  Look, I explained what happened and that's the way it worked out.  It was fraud, but how can I request my money back.   It's just a single person against AT&T...I appreciate the forum to represent my dilemma, but I am still very angry that AT&T

You seem not to understand. It is a franchise. Much like every McDonald's you see in the USA, or anywhere else in the world. It is not owned by McDonald's corporation. It is a franchise owned by a separate person or entity.

Most of the kiosks in Costco, Sam's club, and BJ's are owned by Smart Circle. They are franchised to sell AT&T products and services. They rent space in those big box stores. They are responsible for what they sell and their responsible if they misrepresent the deals offered by AT&T.

Again, your best course of action is to take it up with them

The offer was not bogus. The offer is still published on AT&t's website. But you had to meet the requirements of the offer including which phone you purchased, which phones were eligible to trade in, plus all of the other requirements. (Photo at the bottom)

If you purchased a Samsung Galaxy  S23, which is what I assume you may have purchased, not a budget a23, on March 4th the offer was still good.

But not if you traded in an LG.

The Samsung Galaxy deal was any year any condition Samsung Galaxy S-class phone.  Some A class phones are included.

The same offer still exists on the AT&T website. Not all phones are included. Budget phones are almost always excluded.

LG is out of business. You can't give their phones away. Much less trade them in. They have zero value.

The person who told you they could take your LG phone lied to you to make a sale.

Again, take it up with the kiosk at Costco. They're the people that lied to you.
