My mobile number has been flagged as spam

I called a friend of mine recently and they said my phone number (even though it was in their contacts list) showed up as a spam risk by the service they have installed on their phone. This is a big problem for me, since I use this number for both personal and business calls in which I make outbound sales calls for a living. How can I look into this further and get my number cleared from any spam detection or black lists?

Hello,

The app is AT&T Call Protect and is free to download and use for AT&T customers. You can download it and possibly try and change it thru app.

You did state it’s used for outgoing sales calls for business, which would make it valid for another person receiving these calls to simply mark your number a SPAM risk through the self reporting option in app. Hard to say if that’ll change, since your line is spamming people with outbound sales calls if they are unsolicited.

My elderly neighbor's land-line number [which is a long-time, detailed contact in my own contacts] has recently started being flagged as Medium Risk Spam. How can I get my phone to stop doing this?

Hello @WoodlandKathy, we'd like to confirm why your device is flagging known numbers as spam.

To better assist, we want to collect more information from you:

  • Do you currently have AT&T Call protect or any third-party blocking apps set up on your device?
  • What's the make and model of your device? This way we can provide device specific troubleshooting steps on how to fix your concern.

Let us know so that we can move to the next steps to help assist you!

Thank you.

I have AT&T call protect. I have a Samsung Galaxy S20.

P.S. the call comes through identified as my neighbor but it also gives me a notification that it is a MEDIUM SPAM RISK. This is also a recent [the past week] occurrence.

Link below to request removal of phone number from SPAM listing. This is the company that developed AT&T’s Call Protect app.

The form / website you sent me to is very unclear. It doesn't appear to be someplace I can make the change I need to. There is no reference to Call Protect. And the only options are for changing how my own phone is flagged, not my neighbor's. I don't want to go down some rabbit hole I can't get back from. This form ONLY refers to "my" number, not the number of another person.

Hello WoodlandKathy, thanks for those additional details. Let's continue to look into why your contact is being flagged as Medium Risk Spam.

Since you have the Call Protect app installed on your device, check the settings to learn how to manage your AT&T Call Protect spam list.

If you would like to Report an incorrect caller identification in Call Protect, you can do so by filling out the information at the provided link.

Let us know if this information helps, and thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums.

People! I'm trying to remove a spam designation NOT FOR MY OWN NUMBER, but for a number that already appears in my contacts and has suddenly been flagged as spam. I think everyone is confused because I mistakenly commented on a post regarding the questioner's OWN number. My issue is with a number that appears in my contacts. I'm going now to post my own question to see if I get a better response. :-)

I attempted to pose my own question through the Community Forums. This post did not meet your Community Standards. What's wrong with it. I've copied & pasted it exactly.

-----------------------------------------------------

Although her contact information shows up on my screen when she calls, the call initially flashes as Medium Risk Spam and appears as a Notification that a Medium Risk Spam call has been received - her number. How can I remove this flagging? It's annoying to have to constantly deal with this. She is an elderly neighbor whose calls I want to take. I have NEVER indicated in any way that her calls are spam. I have had her in my CONTACTS forever. The flagging is the new thing.

Also, it worries me that other folks in my Contacts may also be flagged as Spam at some point & I would accidentally block them. Grrrr.....
