Line Suspended Because I Switched Phones
Like many people, I own multiple smartphones, and I occasionally switch between them for variety. Today I discovered that doing so caused my line to be suspended. I had to get on a call with customer service to resolve the issue, and they said this is some fraud protection measure. Now, every time I want to switch my sim card to another phone that I ALREADY OWN I have to contact At&t to activate it? This is absurd. Please explain this policy to me as I've never heard about it, and I would like to opt out of it.

This is not a fraud measure. One or more of phones you are using is not on the list of phones ATT will support when the 3G network shuts down in Feb 2022. Even though customers already using phones not on the list can continue to use that phone, ATT will no longer activate a phone not on the list. When you swap the SIM card to an unsupported phone, it is equivalent to trying to activate a non supported phone and your line gets suspended. This is not something you can opt out of. You need to quit using any phone not on the supported list.

@sandblaster You are correct, I was switching to a Nexus 5 which apparently tops out at 3G. This "list" of supported devices you're referring to, is it publicly available?
Also, thanks a million for the quick response.

I have a red magic 6 and AT&t ban me, my red magic 6 works perfectly on 4G with AT&t I've been using it for 6 months now. What they're doing is there in cahoots with Samsung and Apple this is going to push their sales up. If you go to any AT&t store you will see the majority of their phones or apple and Samsung's you might see one or two LG and Motorola. This is a sham my phone is compatible and does work on 4G but they ban me and told me that on February 22 they will permanently ban my phone. Well on February 22 I will be switching to T-Mobile thank you AT&t.

@jaqbly @Your phone must be VoLTE capable also not just 4G data capable. Top FAQs to the right hand has more info.

T-Mobile is sunsetting it's 3G network as well. The only difference would be if your phone remains compatible with T-Mobile's network.

AT&T has been building a list of compatible phones since March 2020. Over a year and a half ago. Your phone was never on the list.
Samsung makes tons of phones, so yeah, big list. But plenty of phones At&t doesn't sell made the list because the manufacturer got them certified. So complain to Red Magic, who couldn't be bothered.
Unlocked phones that work on at&t now that 3g is going away
