Fraud

An account was fraudulently opened in my husband's name. We believe a costco kiosk worker opened it for commission. We have spent over a month trying to close the account and return the IPad that was sent. We have filled out police reports, gone to corporate, filled out all the required forms, and we are told they will not take the I pad back and that we owe over $2000. The stress that this has cost us to the point that we are thinking of taking legal action.

@Mdigiac3  You agreed to Binding Arbitration when you signed up for AT&T so that's the only real legal avenue you have at this point in time.

Kiosks at places like Costco, Target, Sam's Club, etc are owned and operated by companies totally separate from AT&T and are not staffed with AT&T employees. They are retail operators just selling AT&T goods and services. So, technically you did business with them and not AT&T. What you have experienced is what a lot of folks have experienced when dealing with AT&T Retail Stores. Unfortunately AT&T has little to no control over their business practices.

If you've filed a police report, filed a fraud report with AT&T then the next thing you can do is file a complaint with the BBB. Those will go straight to AT&T Corporate and you will get a call from someone in the Office of the President. Have all of your documentation in order when they call. They might be able to straighten it out for you because the they do have the authority and resources to do that.

Over $2000 for an iPad doesn't sound right.
