Family plan for my suspended number is canceled, how can I avoid canceling my number?...
I suspended my number after moving abroad, at a cost of $10 per month. It’s one line in a family plan. Technically i could cancel my suspension within 6 months anytime.
But today my holder told me everyone in the family plan has left the plan cuz she herself will move abroad and suspend her number next month as well. Then she suggested canceling my number before Jan 13rd otherwise I’ll be charged for the whole plan from then on.
My question is, can I still keep my number any way, without paying for the whole plan? Should I now reactivate the number first, find and join another family plan, then still $10 a month to keep my number? Or is there a better and easier way?
If i can’t do anything to avoid canceling my number... can I reactivate my number at least one last time now? I know probably you couldn’t see what messages you have received during suspension, but when I started using my new number abroad, i kept my old number active for a while before suspending the old number. At least I wanted to check if I’ve missed any messages during that time.
Thanks!

The work around, which would be very difficult/impossible if you’re not in the US. Is to unsuspended the number, port the number to a prepaid account, on a pay per use plan. Refill that plan with $100 and your number is held for 365 days.
The problem with that is prepaid cannot be refilled or managed outside of the United States.
The current account owner would have to be willing to do the work for you including activating the Sim card in one of their phones temporarily to start the prepaid account. I suppose that he could then mail you the Sim card - not that it would work out of the USA
Maybe someone else has another idea.

Thanks! I did some research and found that theoretically I'm not eligible to use google voice, mostly because right now I'm not in the US anymore:
However, there're still plenty of articles talking about using Googlevoice after moving abroad so I figure as long as I can set up a googlevoice account successfully (using vpn/ asking someone in the US to help), then forwarding everything to Google Hangouts rather than my international number, it should be fine... It just sounds very tricky though:

Are there any workarounds?
I have another idea which seems painful too: How much will this cost: restore my suspended number - then start the easiest individual plan - then suspend the phone???
