Change primary user

My wife and I are both on our wireless account. When we established it I had a separate business account and so we made her primary on this one. She doesn’t want to deal with it plus if we switch I can get the veteran discount.

since we are already on the account, it goes to my email and my credit card is there an easier way than tobr process to,fix this.

The transfer of billing responsibility is the correct process to go through for you to take control of the business account. 

 

However, there might be a another option. Have you considered moving the line away from business and putting on the consumer account? That way both lines will under you.

I thought I poster a clarification, but it does not seem to be here.

First, the business account was closed when I retired, there is only one account.

Second, my wife and I are both on the account, in fact it uses my email and credit card.

Third, I was told I can get a veteran discount if I am the primary user instead of an authorized user.

Fourth, to do a TOBR, one of our tablets has several installments left and the system says that one can’t transfer-we do not want two accounts.


and finally, she does not want to “be in charge” of this account because she hates bureaucracy more than I do.

so please tell me there is an easy way to just swap the names and leave everything else alone.

The only way to change the name on the account is to submit a Transfer Of Billing Request. This is the only way to change the primary name on a billing account.

Accessories do have to be paid off.  Just manage the tablet installment online and pay it off, lump sum.

Then you do a transfer of billing responsibility everything will be in your name, there will be no other changes. You can then apply for the veterans discount of 25%. 

Financial responsibility is not  bureaucracy.  Bureaucracy is a system of government or complicated layered system having control. Financial obligations and cell service isn't that. Paying bills is something we all manage unless we're homeless living in a tent  What if something happens to you?   

I'm all for doing the transfer and doggone it get that 25% discount you earned it as a veteran. But let your wife pay the bills every other month.

Thanks for your suggestions. My comment about bureaucracy referred to trying to deal with AT&T on the phone for other than simple processes. The first person you talk to is rarely the “right” one and you get handed around, telling the whole story anew each time. And most of the time the second and third person can’t help.  If this process doesn’t seem like it qualifies to you, well, enjoy.

Dealing with AT&T over the phone can be difficult, if you got a foreign call center they frequently don't know one end from the other. I found it very easy to manage my service online, and this forum is invaluable.

In fairness to AT&T, you're trying to make this a difficult process by involving customer service at all. The TOBR process is 100% online and is incredibly smooth, especially since you're in the same household. 

Keep in mind the Veterans discount is the only reason it has to be in your name. As long as she makes you an authorized user, she doesn't have to be involved in management of the account at all.

If everyone’s situation was the same a cookie cutter TOBR approach would be fine. I have been an authorized user for several years, though the still text her phone as well as mine.

Without boring everyone with the details, we had several good reasons for not wanting to create a new account and thought there might be a way around it since we have both been on the account since before it became “AT&T Wireless”.

At the risk of offending AT&T- I logged into the app, changed my wife’s name to mine, making her an authorized user and me the account holder.

I logged off and did the veteran discount paperwork and had approval in a few minutes.

should have just tried that in the first place since it was already on my credit card, email etc.
