ATT Wireless Account suspended due to suspected fraud

My wife and I visited an AT&T store last night to change her account type and pre-order a new iPhone. Long story short, the account was suspended due to suspected fraud. I've tried calling the fraud dept but I'm getting nowhere. Can someone please contact me? My wife uses the number for her business and she will be losing income if we can't get the line back quickly. Thanks

I'm not sure why appearing in person should set up a fraud alert, but the way to resolve it is probably going to be going back to the store with photo ID. If the account is in her name, she's the one who's going to have to go.

If she changed account type based on a business and did not bring a valid tax ID number for the business, that's certainly would trigger a fraud alert

To that end she should bring her tax ID number for her business

Thanks for your reply. We were told that only the fraud dept could fix the problem. They're hard to get in contact with but we'll keep trying. Actually now considering getting another account & line and hopefully one day soon, transfer the old number to the new account (if we can get the original account unlocked). Wish me luck !!

Fraud is difficult to reach.   (Maybe att slacking making too much work for them?)

BBB or FCC complaint is an option.  The complaint is forwarded to att upper management and someone will contact you

Thanks for the tip. Thankfully someone from ATT Business fraud contacted me and they said they would pass my problem to the retail team. If I don't hear anything I'll contact BBB or FCC.

If you do go to a store make sure it is a Corporate Store and not a Retail Store. You will probably get better and more accurate help (fewer mistakes) in a Corp Store (they both look exactly the same so ask when you go in). However, you may be stuck doing business with the same store that you originally went to.

BBB complaint sent. So now I have to go get a new account set up and hopefully transfer the number to the new account once fraud resolves the issue.

Dear ATT, I'm hoping someone from the consumer fraud dept can contact me ASAP as this phone number is used for a small business.

Also, why did the account get flagged for fraud when we had all our ID docs in hand at the store during this transaction?

Rant over. Hoping to hear from ATT soon.

Thanks, James. The problem I'm having is that I can't get hold of anyone in consumer fraud. Believe me, I've tried.

@michaelc6

1. File a police report

2. File a fraud report with AT&T (the case # from the police report will be useful)

3. Notify your credit card companies

4. Carefully monitor your accounts for the next couple of months on at least a monthly basis (ideally weekly) for any suspicious charges and dispute those charges with your credit card company

5. Carefully monitor your AT&T account

6. Change all of your passwords for any important accounts

7. File the BBB complaint so you can discuss the issue directly with an AT&T Senior Manager

8. Have all of your documentation on hand when you talk with AT&T

I just randomly had my account suspended for the same reason. No one alerted me. No email. Nothing. I found out after I thought my SIM card failed and got a new one. Tech support alerted me and gave me the fraud department's number. I left a message with a machine that said it would reply in 48 hours. Hopefully they do emails cos the number i have on the regular is now suspended so they wouldnt be able to call it. I was borrowing a phone when I was talking to tech support. If this isnt fixed I am closing my account and getting a new number I guess.
