Late Fee for years

Hi!

we had a Samsung watch over 4 years ago connected to a phone number that we ported over to another provider. Apparently the watch had its own number… was that a thing 4 years ago? Then Att never contacted us and then sent the 30 dollar bill to collections and now 4 years later we’ve spent the entire week trying to understand what happened.
we are being scammed.
many one else being scammed?

That’s not a scam, any watch with cellular service gets its own number, always has. It is a function called numbersync that lets the watch use the number of a phone. When you ported the phone number, you only cancelled the phone line. You also needed to call to cancel the watch line, which apparently you did not do.

This is also true if you had a dedicated hotspot or a tablet. Any device with cellular service, that you are being billed for on your account has a phone number for billing purposes.

When you switch service providers they will Port over your phone numbers only. This means that numbers assigned to non-phone devices like the ones I listed are not ported by your new service provider. It would be nice if your new provider had told you to call and cancel your watch line because they were not porting that number.

If you brought the watch to your new service provider, read your bill. It has a number assigned to the watch line that is not used for calls or text, but only for billing.
