Improve Hot Spot Wi-Fi - A Solution From AT&T Community
Some AT&T Hot Spots have the option to adjust settings to improve your Wi-Fi range and band. This can help improve your MiFi experience.
Note: Some mobile Hot Spots do not have the option to adjust Wi-Fi Band or Wi-fi Range due to system limitations of the device.
Things To Know
If you are in an apartment or you are close to your Hot Spot, we recommend using the 5GHZ frequency. This frequency provides a strong signal in local areas. Test different bands and ranges to determine what works best for you.
Change the Wi-Fi Band
- Select the Wi-Fi icon
- Select Wi-Fi Band
- Select either 2.4Ghz or 5GHz
Improve Wi-Fi Range
- Select the Wi-Fi icon
- Select Wi-Fi Range.
- Select either Long, Medium, or Short. (If you are using your device for your home, long is recommended).
Instruction may vary per device. For additional support, check out our support center. Some mobile Hot Spots do not have the option to adjust Wi-Fi Band or Wi-fi Range due to system limitations of the device.
- Go to Device Support Home Page.
- Type your device or select via the options listed.
- Scroll down and select “Learn How To Use.
- In Device Topics select either:
- Settings then Adjust Wi-Fi Range.
- Connectivity then Dual-Band Wi-Fi.
Settings Vs Settings
Where you place your device and what is around it can affect not only coverage but Wi-Fi. Check out our How To Improve Hotspot Coverage page for more information. Hotspot Basics is a great resource as well.
