Sound issues with Uverse TV
I have 2 tv's that have issues with sound. Both are using vip 2500 wireless STB's both connected with hdmi. Neither TV has any problems with anything other than Uverse.
Tv #1 is a 2018 Vizio E55-f1. The problem with this tv is often recordings will lose sound. Sometimes it's when you first go to start a recording it will have zero sound. Sometimes in the middle of the watching the sound cuts out. If I change channels to a live channel it will have sound. Usually switching back to the recording /channel 9999 will fix it. Sometimes I have to start a different recording to get sound back and then switch back to the recording I actually want to watch.
Tv #2 is an older LG TV. This tv will lose sound 100%, it seems most likely it's a HDCP issue. The only way to solve it is to press power button on remote turning tv off and stb to standby. Usually the connection will fix itself after 1-2 times. If not the only way to fix it is to do a hard reset on the STB. (this tv also had similar problems when it use to be wired via coax with a different stb
Any solutions? Maybe @ATTU-verseCare will respond?
or is this just the bugs from AT&T's ancient windows CE 5.0 (on operating system that debuted in 2004!) based STBs. Should I just learn to live with faulty software?

Have you tried rebooting the dvr? Or even just reboot the gateway and after it completes it's reboot then the dvr.
You could check the possibility of an HDCP problem by trying component cables instead of the HDMI.

been years. I don't want to use component cables, I want AT&T equipment to
function properly. Not to mention I can't use component cables with tv #2
even if I wanted to, since it's flush mounted to a wall and I can't access
it without taking the whole thing down. Plus the component cables won't
fit in my cable hiders.

I had only suggested the cables as a troubleshooting step.
Going back to your first post I just noticed:
Are these the only tv's you have? No other tv connected to the dvr? Of do you have a tv connected to the dvr and it doesn't show any of problems?
How many signal strength bars show on each of the wireless receivers on the front panel? 3 is marginal, 4-5 is best.
Maybe you should try to get the dvr replaced. You will loose all your recordings of course if you do that.

For diagnostic purposes, are you able to run a Cat5 cable to the wireless STBs? I'd like to see if you can reproduce the problems with wired connections.

I wish I could run cat5, but I don't have any ports left on my uverse router and the stbs don't work on my wireless access point that does have open ports.
In addition it would be a pretty long run, and since it doesn't happen all that often it could take weeks to test. And I don't really want to live with a cable running on the floor through my entire house.
It's more an annoyance than a major problem.
One of my wireless boxes died and I'm waiting in a replacement. It'll be interesting to see if the new wireless box has the same problems.

Understood. The only common pieces to your problematic wireless boxes are the AT&T WAP, the ethernet cord from WAP to gateway, and the gateway port the WAP is plugged into (and the gateway itself, of course). Have the gateway and/or wireless STBs been replaced since you've had these issues? A U-verse tech will generally replace a gateway with this type of problem; if s/he's feeling generous, might also replace the WAP. It's also not that rare to have two defective wireless STBs; most of this stuff is refurbished, and failures happen, although the similar problems are a stretch. You could try changing the ethernet cable from the gateway to the WAP, and try another gateway port. I don't have any real hope that this will work, but it's an easy trial. Other than that, I'd be calling in the calvary: 800.288.2020.
