Smithsonian HD and Guide

I'll ask again, did you check to see if the channel is hidden?

I would be curious to know if anyone else who has U300 or above without the HD Premium Tier Package is still receiving Smithsonian Channel HD (channel 1118).

I have U300 with HD, but not the HD Premium Tier, and 1118 comes in just fine. Sorta like how Lifetime Real Women on channel 364 is supposedly the only non-sports/HBO pack channel you can't get with U300 (according to everything online, printed, and on the Account Manager), yet I've had it from day one. Not that I've watched it, but it's there.

As to why it doesn't come up on the EPG, can't see why it's not there in full-length mode.

Check to see if the channel has been hidden. (MENU --> Options --> Channel Options --> Hide Channels)

If the channel has not been hidden, try rebooting your DVR/STB.

I also have the U-300 and i get 1118 just fine.  I dont watch it much, but i have had no problem getting it.

118 is available with U-300. As per every other channel with an HD equivalent, if you get that appropriate SD channel and have your "HD tier" activated, you should be able to get it in HD, right?

Last I checked, 118/1118 worked like this:
118 - You can get this with U-300 or U-450
1118 - You can get this with U-300 plus HD, U-450, or HD Prem Tier.

I have the U-200 with HD and HD Prem Tier. I get 1118, but not 118. When I drop HD Prem Tier, I lose 1118. If I were to upgrade to U-300 on that same day, then i'd re-gain 1118 as part of the U-300 plus HD.

Texasguy might be right. It may be changed...I think I heard that a while ago, but forget what the current situation is.

Both have been rebooted several times during this period (mostly by power outages, but what's the difference?).  As I said, one of my best friends just had the identical U-450 package installed, and 1118 appears on his onscreen guide, and it appears on my WRA guide, and I can schedule recordings that show up in the onscreen list. It's very frustrating because I like the channel, and this situation means I have to remember to periodically check what's on it manually.

Did you check to see if the channel has been hidden?

I just got off the phone with support (and was looking at the channel lineup after spending 15 minutes to find it).  They say 1118 is NOT supposed to be available without HD premium, and they insisted that my friend should not be able to access it through his guide if he only has U-450.  Anyway, I let them give me a six-month promo deal that gave me HDP and lowered my overall bill.  When that expires, I'll just try to renegotiate.  I'd suggest anyone else getting this channel without HDP not rock the boat.
