U-verse TV: New Install - What to expect?
I've got a new install for 5 rooms of U-verse TV, U450 programming and DVR plus upgrade from Max Pro to Max Turbo on my internet scheduled for late next week. I have a DirecTV system that's being replaced with this, so all 5 rooms have co-ax run for that and each room has at least two RJ45 jacks tied with Cat 6E to the current home network which is a 16 port gigabit switch next to the current RG and a 8 port gigabit switch in the entertainment center. What should I expect on this install; Will the tech need to run new wiring throughout the house or be able to use any/all of the existing wiring I have? I do believe that I'm getting a new RG because it shows on my order, my current RG is a 3800HGV-B (It's getting 22 Mb/s day in & out right now, no complaints).
Any help would be appriciated. Thanx in advance!

The 3800 can handle MaxTurbo and TV. You can feed your 5 TV Receivers over good quality RG59 or over Ethernet, or up to two may be connected via Wireless.
The preference is for Ethernet over Cat5e/Cat6 or Wireless. Wireless is liked by installers because they don't have to run wires for them. Ethernet is by far the best choice.
Since the 3800 (or any U-verse RG) only has 4 RJ45 ports, you cannot connect all 5 TV Receivers directly to the RG via Ethernet, so some would have to move to a switch connected to the RG. You need to be careful when mixing IPTV and general traffic on a switch, especially if you have a third party wireless access point or wireless router connected to that switch.
Do be aware of the limitation of no more than 4 LIve HD streams coming into your home at the same time. I mention this because you say 5 TVs. You can view different programs on all 5 TVs, but some would have to be recorded.

I'm aware of the 4 streams limit, two TVs get limited use and 2 TVs are almost always on the same channel which is SD international programming. Main TV is where the DVR will be and it's after 7 pm only, doubt if I'll ever hit 3 simultanious streams with one being SD.

Just found a problem with my order too. When I spoke with the U-verse agent yesterday to place the order I informed him that as a long time AT&T customer that I felt I shouldn't pay for instlallation when your competitor doesn't charge for it, the agent agrred and said all $150 or so installation fees are waived. Just checked my order and a $49 "Activation" fee is there after he said it was waived. I don't know if these people think I'm stupid, but I'm determined to prove otherwise. This is not the 1st time I've been charged for something I should not have been this month. AT&T/U-verse is about lose about $450-500/month from me.

Activation fee is not the same as an installation fee. However, I'd suggest that you click this
Customer Service link to send a Private Message (PM) to the AT&T customer service team to assist in getting this straightened out. You can expect a reply via return PM (the blue envelope
in the upper right hand corner of this site, next to your avatar and name) in a business day or three.
Speed things up by including your Billing Account Number, and the best time and way to reach you.

Thanx JefferMC. I attempted to place the order online and all these installation fees came up, called a U-verse agent and he said he would waive them all, no problem, didn't say he's waive them all but the activation fee, he said all of them. The whole conversation with the agent made me uncomfortable because he kept saying he was going to give me this and give me that when I had already priced everything and knew exactly what they were, it was a huge stroke-fest to say the least..

@my thoughts needs a new job, preferably one where they ask "Do you want fries with that?". Be aware that I am the CUSTOMER, without me you have no job, you don't eat and you have no place to live. Quoting something on a website has no meaning to me as I dictate and negotiate my own terms by which a potential sale happens or not. It's my money and I am not required by law to give it to AT&T if I do not wish to do so. Comprendi?

My thoughts is informing you the customer that certain fees are not waiveable by CS representatives. The CS reps only state the terms and process the deal. They cannot change the price or terms.
Just as you said, if you don't like the terms, don't purchace the product.

CS representatives are frontline and do make representations for the company that are valid & binding. I'm buying internet service, so I don't have internet at the moment. How do I read the terms on the internet if I don't have it yet (hypothetical)? Ever dealt with a state AG?
