Uverse on new Samsung TV with Alexa

Just replaced my TV and Fire TV Cube with a new Samsung smart tv that has Alexa built in. It seems to work well with my uverse DVR box, in fact it mostly works better than the cube did.  The only problem I’m having is that I can’t seem to turn on the cable box via Alexa any more, nor does it turn on automatically with HDMI.  Any thoughts?

Glad to help you use Alexa to power on your U-verse receiver and help with your TVs HDMI status, nucleon.

So that we can determine what your next steps should be, please let us know what happens when you try to turn the receiver on. Also, we suggest following Samsung's troubleshooting guide for the HDMI connection.

We look forward to hearing back from you, so we can provide further assistance.

Everything works together fairly well unless the Uverse box has turned itself off. Then I have to turn it on with its own remote. With the older FireTVCube I could at least say “turn on cable” to do so.

Thanks for getting back to us, nucleon.

Upon further research, we've found that the U-verse receiver is not fully compatible with all of Alexa's capabilities. This could explain why you're no longer able to use Alexa to power the receiver on and off.

We'll submit this information to have our support team take a look and see if they'll be able to resolve this with a firmware update. We apologize for any inconvenience!

Thanks. Again, the ability to turn the uverse box on and off was available with the FireTV Cube, via infrared control. The new Samsung TV is able to control the box (channels, etc) apparently via HDMI as there is no IR emitter, at least not a dongle like I had with the Cube.
