ATT email issues with a Macbook Pro

I've been having issues trying to add an att.net and a sbcglobal.net email addresses to my Macbook. I get errors like Oops, something went wrong.  That error happens when I try to add he address using the Yahoo icon on the Mail program. When I try to add it doing the Other email account by adding it manually I guess you could say. The error message i get on that is can't verify email address or password. I know I'm putting in the correct password because I can get my mail on Yahoo's website without any issues.

Any help would be helpful.

I've been talking to tech support many times and I can't get any resolutions. I'm wondering if it's on ATT's end on why it's not being added to the Mail program on the Mac when I can add a gmail and a yahoo address to the mail program.

Thanks in advance

We're here to help get you into your e-mails, junglegirljlt!

We suggest using and checking if you can login to Currently to view your e-mails, as the website is supported by AT&T and we are able to determine if any present issues are with your account, or with how it connects to outside servers. However, if you are using 3rd Party Email Clients - this would be considered any other website or application outside of Currently - you may need to look into Open Authentication or Secure Mail Key to ensure your e-mail account stays synced properly and is able to be logged into.

Open Authentication is a security measure we put in place that encrypts your e-mail and password when using 3rd Party e-mail clients. We have an article regarding OAuth that states what applications work with this security system.

If the 3rd Party e-mail client you are using is not in that list, you will need to Create a Secure Mail Key. This is a security measure that encrypts your password, and you are able to create and manage it via myAT&T. You will then use your Secure Mail Key as your password when logging into any 3rd Party programs or applications, while your login to any AT&T sites will stay the same.

If you are needing the information for server settings, we suggest using IMAP for your 3rd Party e-mail clients.

Let us know if this helps!

I can check my email on the yahoo website or Currently just fine and I had these email addresses in the Mail program i use on the Mac. I was having issues getting them to stay online so I deleted them and now I'm trying to add them back to the Mail program that I use.

I've tried this and it doesn't work:

Set up Apple Mail (OS X) for AT&T email

Use these steps to set up your email for the first time or on a new computer.
  1. From Mail, selectMail>Preferences.
  2. ChooseAccountsand then select the+ (plus sign).
  3. SelectAdd Other Mail Accountand thenContinue.
  4. Complete Add a Mail Account info:
    • Full name as you want it to display to others
    • AT&T email address ([email scrubbed])
    • Password – enter yourpasswordorsecure mail key
  5. SelectCreate. The account will automatically configure and appear in the Accounts list.
  6. Close the Preferences window to begin using your email account.

When I try to add the email by choosing Yahoo from the list, I get this error message:

Something's gone wrong

Let's try this again.
If you were using an app, close this page. Otherwise, start over.
If I manually put it in and use other email account this is the error message I get:
Unable to verify account name or password.
I'm just wondering why the email settings haven't changed and I'v checked and they are correct meaning imap settings are correct.
I can add a Yahoo account and a gmail account but not att.net or sbcglobal.net.
I was on the phone forever yesterday trying to resolve it and the lady said that they were having issues on their end  and for me to keep checking to see if it works. Her name was Alexa and she helped me out more than anyone else has and we still couldn't get it to work.

We're here to help point you in the right direction, junglegirljlt!

Since your e-mail is working as intended in all other ways, it seems like the issue is with the webmail client itself. We suggest reaching out to Apple Support for further assistance regarding this.
