Unlock doesn’t work on Samsung propel

I requested an unlock code on a Samsung propel phone I have. I submitted a request with the IMEI number. I got the code today and followed the instructions but the code didn’t work. It didn’t unlock the phone. I did try to attempt with a few times and ended up freezing the phone. I can’t seem to find a helpful ATT rep to help. Figured I’d post a question here. Anyone know how to unfreeze and unlock a Samsung propel. Thanks!

if you followed the unlock instructions to insert a Sim card from a different service provider, and then when the screen popped up to enter the unlock code you typed in the unlock code, and still did not successfully unlock the phone, still can’t work with a new provider…

YUP.  It wouldn’t

The Samsung propel is from 2008, I’m surprised they could even provide you with an unlock code. But you are right the unlock code does not work, it should not work, and that phone will not work with another service provider.

It has 3G bands two and five only. Since all US carriers are shutting off 3G service, it will have no connection inside of the United States at all. Verizon couldn’t use it anyway, and T-Mobile will not allow it anymore either. It would not work with most foreign service providers because bands two and five are far too limited, carriers outside of the United States use different 3G bands and most places in Europe are also dropping 3G and 2G in favor of LTE only.

it’s a very nice piece of nostalgia, it was a unique phone. But it’s day is long over.

Thank you for that information @shaziah98, about your unlock code.

We understand that you was able to submit the request, but you must allow 24 hours before you are able to submit another unlock request.

General Requirements for All Unlock Requests

  • The device must be designed for use on, and locked to, the AT&T wireless network.
  • It must not be reported lost or stolen.
  • It’s not associated with fraudulent activity.
  • All the device’s service commitments and installment plans are completed, and all early termination fees are paid in full.
  • The device is not currently active on a different AT&T customer’s account.
  • If you performed an early upgrade, you must wait the 14-day buyer’s remorse period before you can request to unlock your previous device.
  • Visit our Unlock Support page for the full requirement list
  • Compatible device

We hope this information helps out. Thank you for reaching out to Community Forums.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I know that the the Samsung propel is from 2008, I have a similar phone and had it unlocked. Not sure why the unlock code should not work? If I requested the code from ATT and they provided me with the code then why should it not work?  To the reply "that phone will not work with another service provider" I have another smasung propel that is unlocked and has worked with another service provider for years. The problem with the phone I have is the screening is going so I figured if I was able to get another phone that took the SIM then I can just move the sim (to another unlocked again). Again I have a sumsung propel (that the screen goes on and off) but it works.

Thank you!

To Ashley, AT&T Community Specialist, @ATTHelp

I had submitted an unlock request to ATT and got a code that didn't work. As you saying that i can submit another request?

Also now the phone is frozen to the provider. How do I unfreeze it?

Thanks!

AT&T passes the code on to you from the manufacturer if the code isn’t right then that’s on the manufacturer. There is 1 unlock code per imei so another unlock request would result in the same code. You have permanently locked your phone to AT&T now that you failed 5 times at inputting the code.

@Constructive thanks for the reply. I had followed the instructions exactly. I would appreciate it if @ATTHelp can assist in this matter. Maybe this is not the right place to be able to get assistance. I am sure @ATTHelp can do something to at least unfreeze the phone.

thanks all for your replies.

" I have another Samsung propel that is unlocked and has worked with another service provider for years."

I'm sure you have.  But At&t hasn't supported this phone in a decade.

US service providers are turning off 2g and  3-g to expand LTE and 5G services. I don't know what service provider you are using, but if it's in the USA, it's just a matter of time before your phone is kicked off the network.  2G and 3-g phones originally sold for North America will now only work in the western half of South America.

But non of this matters if you permanently locked the phone by entering the code incorrectly too many times or the incorrect code too many times.

You would now be on your own to pay an unlock service and help they can provide some way of unlocking the device

There's nothing AT&T can do to unfreeze your phone if you have entered an incorrect unlock code or entered an unlock code incorrectly. This would trigger the master code lock or mck code.

AT&T doesn't have it.  It's unlikely that given its age that even Samsung could provide the code even if it could give it to you oh, but it is contractually unable to provide you with anything on an AT&T or other carrier-branded phone.

Hello shaziah98, its unfortunate that you will not be able to unlock your Samsung Propel.

As our Ace stated, if you entered the code incorrectly too many time the device is froze to the network and AT&T will not be able to unlock this device.

Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.
