Unlock Cell phone

I was given a Note 9. Went online to unlock. Result, "Looks like you haven't paid off your device yet. Follow these steps to pay off your installment plan....." Told the my daughter in-law , she gave me the phone, and she call at&t and they replied that all is fine and she is in good standing and still hold an account. She tells me I can now go to T-Mobile which is now my carrier and they disconnect my phone and connect the one I was given and it's status is still delinquent online so now I don't have a functioning number. I have returned to the unlock site provided by AT&tT but it still claims that the phone is delinquent.  Reminds me of all the times I would ask my Dad if I could go out and play and he responds "ask your Mom" then when I ask Mom she says ask your Dad, and you get the rest of the story. Please I'm 61 years old. Help me please.

Did you apply for the unlock as a non customer? If you used your daughter's phone number or account, it is linked to her new phone.

This forum is not customer support. No one here can unlock the phone. Since your daughter-in-law’s account seems to be the issue, she should unlock the phone. Otherwise, file an FCC complaint.

The issue is the phone is clear but AT&T seems to not have applied the closing of a paid in full commitment and when asked their rep says it shows clear and nothing owed but when I go online to unlock and using the IMEI NUMBER it seems not to unlock due to some data not enter in that department. Customer support says it is clear and unlock site says the other. Just asking here if anyone has a clue or has experience this situation because at&t  customer service doesn't. Just hate to have it thrown away.

If the phone was paid off recently or on an account that was closed recently, it is not unusual for the unlock portal to take 1-2 weeks to update. When was the phone paid off?

Hello @ we're here to help with your unlock of phone inquiry.

Please make sure the following requirements are met in order for the device to be unlocked.

Personal device requirements

Your device:

  • Is an AT&T phone or device and isn’t active on another AT&T account.
  • Was paid in full when you bought it (not on an installment plan). You won’t have to wait 60 days to unlock it.
  • Has a paid-off installment plan.
    • Paid through your monthly bill: Submit your unlock request at the start of your next bill period.
    • Paid off early: The wireless number assigned to the device must be active for at least 60 days. Wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit your unlock request. Learn how pay off your installment plan.
  • Doesn’t have a past-due account balance. Make a payment to bring your account current. It will take 24 hours for your payment to post.
  • Hasn’t been reported as lost, stolen, or involved with fraud.
  • Is an AT&T PREPAIDSM phone that has had paid service for at least six months.

Good to know: Don't have an account with AT&T? You can still unlock an AT&T device as long as it meets all requirements.

We hope this information helps, and thanks for reaching out to the Community.
