Sim Card Status randomly goes to "disconnected"

We have two Samsung A53 5G phones that randomly lose mobile data connection.  When this happens, under Sim Card Status/Network the value has changed to "not available "and the Mobile Network Status has changed to "disconnected".  This is quickly fixed by turning airplane mode on then off as the status' goes back to "AT&T" and "Connected".  Hard to nail down just when the status changes, but it seems to happen in a metro area which could have 5G coverage.  Could it be related to entering 5G coverage and AT&T doesn't recognize this phone as 5G so the Status changes?  I noticed on another post that the A53 does not show up on this list: https://www.att.com/ecms/dam/att/consumer/help/pdf/Service-Capabilities-Unlocked-Devices-ATT-Network.pdf

I've gone through all the troubleshooting steps, gotten new Sim Cards from AT&T and have changed "Mobile Data Always Active" setting to "on", but this random status change still occurs.

Did you purchase your phone's from AT&T or are they AT&T branded?

If yes, they would not be on the list of unlocked phones. That list is for phones that are not sold by AT&T.

You could swap some cards with the other phone and see if the problem follows the SIM card or stays with the phone. If it follows the SIM card the SIM card itself may be defective. If it stays with the phone then it could indicate either the SIM tray or the phone has a defect.

If the problem follows the SIM card then getting the SIM card replaced May fix it.

The A53 came out in March of 2022 which means it's still under warranty.

Thanks for the ideas.  Purchased through Amazon so should be on the list I would think.  I've changed Sims and tried another phone (but it also was an A53) with same results.  The fact that changing airplane mode on and off immediately fixes the problem seems to me to point to the network.

AT&T has just opened a case on the issue, so as this seems to be a new issue to them.  We'll see if they find anything.

Amazon ads are notoriously wrong..

If checking the IMEI kicks back an offer of a SIM card, then the phone is compatible with AT&T. If it does not, you need to consider changing service providers.

I got the SIM card offer so definitely compatible with ATT.  Both phones normally work great as we aren't often in 5G service areas.  But when we do hit 5G areas, randomly (not always) the network goes "not available" and sim card status is "disconnected".  I turn airplane mode on and off, then full 5G connectivity works fine.  Phones stay connected and work normally at this point.

AT&T tech has told me they could see the phones weren't pinging towers correctly.  They ran software updates but still not fixed.  They always refer to resetting the network and phone, which I've done multiple times.

Going to talk to Verizon next and give them a try.
