Samsung Galaxy S5 will not update Android
My Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900A is unlocked from AT&T. I use it through Cricket. It is running on Android 4.4.4 and I have tried to update it several times but it always says no updates are available. I took it to Best Buy and they did not know how to update it. I took it to the AT&T store thinking I would buy an AT&T Go SIM card but they said the phone still would not update because the update comes via WiFi so if it won't update without a SIM from AT&T it won't update with a SIM from AT&T. I don't know what to do at this point except throw up my phone and get a new one. The further out of date the OS gets, the more issues I am having with my phone.
Is there any way for me to update the OS on my phone? I keep seeing people saying to use an AT&T SIM card but after the person at the store told me it won't work, I don't want to waste money. Why can't I just go to the AT&T store and have my phone's OS updated there, without even having to buy a SIM? That would be good customer service.

Welcome back to the AT&T Community Forums! I am sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time getting your S5 updated. Sounds like this has turned into a headache for you.
I am surprised that the Best Buy Samsung Experience “did not know how” to update the device. They do them all the time…maybe they just wasn’t able to do it. Flashing phones is pretty much the main thing that they do. I would definitely try another Best Buy and call before you take the phone down there. I will supply the link to help you find some different locations and I think it is worth another shot. Please go to Best Buy Samsung Experience.
The issue with the AT&T is that you are not on network and the updates are sent over the air. Getting an AT&T SIM card would work but that would be a pricey. You would have get a SIM card and then activate the service…..update the phone and then cancel the service. I’m not sure if it is worth it to go through all that. I wish I had a better solution for you.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
