S4 Galaxy SGH-I337 with Android 4.4.4 getting the "no SIM detected message"
My wife has her SGH-I337 with Android 4.4.4 on AT&T getting the "no SIM detected message" with a known new working SIM and a newly replaced SIM + microSD card reader installed.
I used the SIM from her S4 in my S4 and it's working, verified.
She took it to the local AT&T Store and a new SIM was installed, it worked for about 2 days then back to the same problem
Did the hard reset procedure, and also booted this S4 into safe mode, and still the "no SIM is detected" message is appearing.
This S4 can read microSD well. Display is working well, WiFi is good, GPS, Blutooth, all buttons, contacts look good inside, just reading SIM is the problem.
Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions to get this SGH-I337 back on the AT&T network. Reading this is a common problem on the Galaxy S4 phones. This phone is 1.5 years old and in great shape otherwise. Any thoughts will Samsung issue a recall on these phones if enough customers complain about this issue?
Thanks!

I have checked and alot of people having this problem had to replace their phones to get them to work. 1 person posted that this worked to fix:
1. Shut down the phone. Boot into recovery mode by holding down the on button and the volume up button at the same time, then releasing the on button when a message appears in the top left corner of the screen about recovery mode. Keep holding down the volume up button until it goes into recovery mode.
2. Run the option to clear the cache. Then restart the phone normally.
Also you stated that her sim worked in your phone, does yours work in hers.
what baseband version is the phone on? Is that nj4? maybe upgrading to lollipop would work.

I had the same problems with my just over 1 year old S4. AT&T had me rep;ace sim card, and do a factory reset. No difference. Called Samsung and went through the same with them(Safe mode, soft reset, full reset) no difference. Samsung had me send in the phone and they replaced the "Main Board" under warranty. It's worth a call to Samsung to see if they will fix it under warranty.

Hello All,
Thanks, but no solution yet, My wife's S4 is still not reading the enclosed SIM after a few hard reset, data cache clearing, resetting.....
I am off to Best Buy this afternoon to speak to the "Samsung Technicians" there and see what the options are for repairs or ROM reloading.....
There might be a slight chance that reloading Kitkat 4.4.4 the entire image , or even less chance that Lolipop Android would do anything at this point from what I am hearing.
I'll let you know what they say.
Thanks,
George

Stop wasting our time with these lame fix ideas. This SIM issue is know by Samsung and is all over Google.
It is a hardware failure. I have two (2) S4 32g (SGH-I337) phones and had somewhere between 6-8 warranty. I used my DSC (DEVICE SUPPORT CENTER/AT&T) for all but one replacement. Had to use Samsung on the last one as the DSC sent back all their inventory now the the 5 and 6 are out. Going to be fun to see what Samsung will do now that I have another repeat issue and the phone is out of warranty. [Per Guidelines: Keep it Relevant and Appropriate]. Please don't waste time on these listed fix that cost time and money.
