Mobile hotspot temporary network error

I have Samsung S21. Just 3 days ago I get a temporary network error message when trying to use my mobile hotspot. I haven't changed any settings. I was able to use it before just fine. If I restart the phone then I can use it. However once I turn it off when I am done and try later that day I get the error again. I have to restart each time  I need to use it. I connect just fine to the internet. I wonder if the Samsung recent update has affected this feature?

I have a Samsung S22 Ultra and I have a very similar issue with the exact same error message. Sometimes, I can fix this by restarting my phone, but other times, it doesn't matter how many time I restart it - it won't turn on. It's a very frustrating problem. The other day, when I needed it the most, it wouldn't work. It's been at least 3 or 4 months that I've had this issue - I'd say it works about half the time and I use it maybe 2 or 3 times a week.  This seems like it might be firmware related.

We're here to assist you with getting your hotspot back working @henryarroyo.

We know the impact this may have not being able to connect to your hotspot and we're here to get you back connected.

Please take the following steps to test your connection:

  • Make sure your mobile data is turned on.
  • Swipe down from the Notification bar, then select the Settings icon.
  • Select Connections, then select Mobile networks.
  • Toggle the Mobile Data switch ON.
  • Make sure Wi-Fi is turned off.  With this off we're able to focus on troubleshooting the mobile data network.

Visit our test site to see if you're able to access the internet using your mobile data. ~ This will let us know if the issue is with your service or the hotspot feature.

If you're able to surf the web, restart both devices then try connecting to your personal hotspot again.

Also, sign into the Device Support tool to run a real-time diagnostics. Select Start to begin trouble shoot your mobile hotspot.

Let us know if this helps.

We have tried all this and it doesn't last. Meaning after the restart sure my mobile hot spot works. But after I turned it off and try again later - nope not working and I have to restart yet again. This happened I would say after the latest Software update - week of 2/13..... I believe it's a firmware issue now. Never ever had mobile hot spot not work until now and I have been a customer with ATT for a long time.

@ATTHelp Thank you for the response. I've seen these steps before in other posts about the same issue, so I have tried them all many times. I've even done the network reset, which wipes all of my bluetooth and wifi settings, but the issue still persists. I did have the AT&T Active Armor (I think that's the name) on my phone and I've heard that there were some issues with that which prevented Mobile Hotspot from working properly. I've uninstalled it, so I'll see if that does anything.

100% its the 'new' Active Armor. More specifically, its the VPN enabled by Safe Browsing. I know, because I spent hours trying to resolve the issue with Tech Support, only to be told I "HAD" to reset my Network settings. That isnt cool, and requires customer that isn't knowledgeable to go and delete all stored wifi and Bluetooth saved...a huge undertaking if you have multiple networks and devices saved. It's sad @ATTHelp doesn't recognize the root cause and resolution in this thread, so their techs aren't wasting people time by phone. However, @HenryArroyo, no need to Uninstall Active Armor, you just need to disable "Safe Browsing". When I need hotspot for my son's tablet, I just disable safe browsing (turns off VPN), turn on the hotspot, then enable again when he's done. I only get the 'Temporary Network Error' when safe browsing is enabled. AT&T, do better! Active Armor VPN has a bug killing hotspot...fix it!
