MCK code

Phone asks for MCK code. Switched phone to Verizon and paid off at&t phone. At&t days Verizon needs to provide the MCK  number. Verizon says At&t needs to provide the MCK number. Samsung says that the provider has to give the code. I have literally spent countless HOURS trying to deal with this and have not made any progress at all, complete waste of time as both parties are completely useless

@holtoneyedr,

Unfortunately, Atthelp is right. The MCK is the Master Code Key, and only Samsung has that for their devices.

It resets the counter for the NCK input, the Network Unlock Code, which IS something AT&T has.

It's likely that the Samsung reps you spoke to simply don't want to get evolved thinking it might be a stolen phone.

Search around the net for sites that will get you both codes - just prepare to spend about 30 bucks.

@danfrederick54

AT&T has the MCK code but nobody at the help line is aware of that.

Incorrect.  Please see the correct reply On page 1 of this thread.

I spent a month going back and forth from Samsung to AT&T. AT&T help desk would write up a work order on it and send it to the back office. The back office would never work on it. I believe it was because they do not have access to those MCK codes. I finally filed an informal complaint with the FCC against AT&T. I received the MCK code from the office of the president of AT&T within a week.

It has been repeated many many times, Samsung has the mck code but cannot give it to you.   AT&T does not have the MCK code.

The only way to get it is to get AT&T to get the code from Samsung and then AT&T can give it to you.   This usually requires an FCC complaint after you have permanently locked your phone. (as you found out)

If you pay an unlock service they will usually give you all the codes including the unlock code which is probably going to match the one AT&T gave you plus the mck code

Hello @JkRowling2239,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Unfortunately, we don't have access to an MCK code for your cell phone, so we're unable to provide you with that information.

We do, however, have Device unlock codes that are used to complete the unlock process for your cell phone, and begin using the device on a different wireless carrier's network.

We also have access to PUK codes that are used to unlock your AT&T SIM card, if it was locked after three wrong PIN entries.

We recommend reaching out to your current wireless carrier, or Samsung support again for further clarification and assistance.

Hope this helps!

@ATTHelp  This is NOT correct. I have contacted Samsung multiple times and they have confirmed that the MCK code is something that ATT should provide the customer.  If I had purchased the device from Samsung, then they would be able to provide the MCK code. But, since I purchased my device (and paid it off) through ATT.....The MCK code is something that ATT needs to provide.  I have tried 3x to have a conference call with both ATT and Samsung so that Samsung can confirm.  But, every single time, the ATT customer service rep hangs up on us.  Will someone please help me?

@joeldf

I am not ready to pay $30 off the market and (Edited per community guidelines) the device. That won't give me any OS updates from Android.

At&t has to fix this issue... as it is their glitch and the treatment is very horrible so far.

"(Edited per community guidelines)" is an iOS thing. Using a service to give you the unlock codes is no different from AT&T giving it to you.  It's still an AT&T branded phone, and as long as it's still on AT&T's network, it will still get updates. Unlocked or not does not affect that.

Going to another network will affect getting updates from AT&T because AT&T will no longer see it. But that's the case no matter where the unlock code came from.

It may get updates from the other carrier it ends up on, or may come from Samsung. I really don't know.

I have been working on this for 3 days. ATT about 10 reps (3 hang ups) and 5 calls to Samsung. It is frustrating that all we need is a number. It is a verified phone purchase.

Samsung rep saying it is against the law for them to give out the Master Code Key and it comes from the provider. ATT says they do not have the number and that it comes from the manufacture. I confernced called both of them together. They argued about who MCK comes from and Samsung put us on hold then got a hangup...

Still in limbo
