I need help turning off 5G on my galaxy a32

Hello, this is my first post here. I cannot seem to figure out how to disable 5g on my samsung galaxy A32 with AT&T service.

'network operators' is set to 'select automatically'. The description is: "Let your phone choose the best mobile network for you. If you turn this off, you can choose from a list of available mobile networks"
Unfortunately this option is greyed out/cannot be changed.

Where I live, if my phone connects to 5G mobile data I get zero service. I use my phone as a hotspot so this is problematic.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How to turn off 5G on a Samsung phone
  1. Step 1: Go to Settings > Connections.
  2. Step 2: Tap on Mobile Networks.
  3. Step 3: Tap on Network Mode.
  4. Step 4: Select LTE/3G/2G (Auto), LTE/CDMA, or one of the other 4G/LTE options to prevent the phone from using 5G. It's easy to switch it back on whenever you want.

Your answer is utterly useless. You did not read my post. Apparently AT&T does not allow the user to change mobile networks. There are 3rd party apps that allow you to, however.

Hey @TylerBos97, we hear your concern about turning off 5G on your Samsung A32.

AT&T does not allow network switching on AT&T branded android.

At the moment, there are no known 3rd party apps that will allow you to do so.

We do recommend you to try resetting your network setting to see if that helps with connectivity!

Swipe down from the Notification bar, then select the Settings icon > scroll to and select General management > select Reset > Reset network settings > Reset settings > select Reset to confirm.

Hope this helps!

@ATTHelp ,

Not true. Google Play has several such apps.

@Fl_retire ,

In the Google Play Store, there are several apps that reveal the hidden settings, but the best known is the "Samsung Band Selection" app.  It provides direct access to the "Mobile networks" page that includes the "Preferred network type" setting that AT&T purposely hides on their phones.  I've used it and it works on a branded S20 FE 5G.

It even lets you select a specific band to access - although I don't really get the point of that.  If you are driving around, hitting different towers as you drive, each one may have a different set of bands broadcasting from it. If you limit it to just one band, then you may hit an area with a tower that doesn't have that one, and connection is lost.

Darn.  My post above about the "Samsung Band Selection" app was meant for @TylerBos97 .

Now I can't edit it.  Oh well.

@joeldf thanks much for the tip!  My Galaxy A32 was having intermittent connectivity issues and my carrier (Twigby) was telling me it was due to a poor 5G signal and the solution was to change it to LTE but the option to do this was not available.  This app got it back and I was able to change it to LTE. I got an error from the app but it still unhid the "Preferred network type" under mobile networks.
