AT&T Tech Help Needed Updating Samsung SM-G870A (S5 Active)
The phone's nothing special but it's belonged to special people that have been lost, so, upgrading isn't an option. Fortunately, it's still compatible with modern technology, looks new and works great...I'd really like to keep it going..
I'm looking to update it to enable VoLTE due to network upgrades, the S5's VoLTE capable it just needs updated from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4. (preferred) or 6.0. I had AT&T for years but moved to a rural area without coverage and had to switch to T-Mo...phone specs below:
Samsung Galaxy S5 Active
AT&T Branded
Unlocked/Unrooted
T-Mobile Network - United States
SM-G870A
Android Version: 4.4.2
AP: G870AUCU1ANG3
CP: G870AUCU1ANG3
CSC: G870AATT1ANG3
I've already tried OTA update, Smart Switch and Kies to no avail due to age/branding.....I'd greatly appreciate assistance bumping it up a notch to enable VoLTE.
Thanks in advance!

I figured as much but was hoping for the possibility of being directed to a web download I could transfer to the phone. My backup plan is to use a friends SIM card to update it OTA - in either case I'll need to know if I can get VoLTE through the 4.4.4 update as most S5's did or only through 6.0.

Why are you rehashing the same thread?

Your not a ATT customer and ATT only updates phones if you are a ATT customer connected to a ATT tower.

Model specific AT&T Tech assistance, as noted by thread placement and subject line - efforts to contact customer support through other means have been fruitless, local stores were a bust, they were kids or new and only familiar with the latest & greatest.
I do however appreciate your input on the mass 6.0 update push they implemented, but we weren't able to nail down specifics on the available 5S update releases. Network access is lower down on the list of concerns at this point, I can get that with a $20 burner if need be.

Sorry but you must be an AT&T customer (i.e. active AT&T SIM card in phone) and be on an AT&T tower. Those AT&T updates do not go through other networks and certainly not to non-customers.

Quick update on the update and correction on some inaccuracies....
I found and downloaded ALL of the factory image files and OTA security updates from the web onto a MicroSD card and manually installed them one by one in boot mode. I was able to update to and try out 4.4.4, 5.1.1 and 6.0.1 in an afternoon without losing any of my personal data or apps - and the only cost I incurred was that of the MicroSD card. It's been running smooth as silk with no glitches for a month now.
All three support HD calling - VoLTE
4.4.4 runs well, has dark mode, takes up minimal space and isn't bogged down with bloatware (my preferred version)
5.0.1 runs okay, has dark mode, uses more space than 4.4.4, has a fair amount of bloatware and is pretty hard on battery life
6.0.1 runs well, no dark mode, uses double the space of the others, loaded with bloatware, apps can be given limited access to system operations, a little better battery life than 4.4.4 but it's god-awful ugly in my opinion and the colors can't be changed.
Watch video reviews of each version prior to picking one as downgrading is a major undertaking.
