AT&T Samsung Zfold 4 bought in Middle East

Hello

I bought this phone in the Middle East which I checked IMEI and it is part of AT&T offerings and can’t be unlocked because it has installments. Mind you the phone is working fine on the network here. I was shocked to see that because I got the impression from seller it is already unlocked.

what are my options? I don’t like the idea that it is like that plus I don’t see myself coming back to USA any time soon for work as I have been abroad for a while

anybody can help what to do next to unlock the phone ??? Do I gain anything by unlocking it.

thank you for any advice.

You said it's already working with a local SIM card? That means it is unlocked. If you artempted to unlock it via web portal, and we're told it has installments that means somebody's probably hacked it to unlock it. It also means you may have been scammed. If it turns out it's not only not legitimately unlocked, but has been reported lost or stolen it will eventually be blacklisted and entirely unusable.

Hello and thank you for your prompt response. I dont think it is a scam becasue this seller is well recognized and they are number one seller here not just samsung but iphones ipads etc. I bought an ipad 10 and all is well and even the limited warranty appears in the setting screen.

Also i ran AT&T Device app and it told me there is an Android Update though using the Setting Software Update it says nothing ... not sure if i can update formware throught AT&T ....

AT&T updates are only available if you are in the United States and using AT&T for service. You will not be able to update your phone through conventional means and the unconventional means are not a permitted discussion on this forum.

Just the fact that you've purchased a relatively new AT&T device on the other side of the world indicates that it was probably lost or stolen and hacked.   AT&T does not sell devices anywhere other than the United States

To put it bluntly, no legitimate business would sell devices that are still being paid for in the United states. I would recommend you not do business with that company anymore. AT&T announced in December that it will be cracking down on unpaid devices or devices that are being used on accounts other than the account that has the installments. So far they have only blocked devices from being activated on accounts other than the one where they are under installment.

But if they expand the financial Blacklist the way Verizon has, you could wind up with a blacklisted device if the original owner, who has to be in the united states, defaults on payments.
