ATT Samsung S8

I purchased this phone several years ago on eBay, used. I never used it on ATT network but rather Straight Talk and worked ok. I wanted to unlock the carrier on this phone but was given the response that it was denied because phone is still active under an ATT account. Obviously, I have no contact with the seller from years ago so is this phone permanently locked? Seeing I cannot have it removed from the ATT account it is registered to. Thanks in advance.

Hello @Jlafave87, thank you for your inquiry, and we would be happy to assist you on this matter.

When purchasing a device off of eBay, you would need to contact the previous owner of that device to have it unlocked.

When dealing with purchasing a phone on eBay, you have to be vigilant not to get scammed by the buyer.

Here are some red flags that could indicate a scam listing:
  1. The listing is only posted for a short duration.
  2. The seller doesn't have a long feedback history.
  3. The deal is heavily discounted or too good to be true.
  4. The seller requests that you contact them or pay for the goods outside of eBay.

Hope this information helps, and if you have any other questions, please feel free to reach back out.
