Receive text internationally - is this possible?

I am currently travelling in Europe, I have a 50$ prepaid plan and I need to receive text messages to access my Microsoft accounts.
None of the add-on packages seem to match to what I actually need.

Do I need to change my plan to get access to international travel add-on package(s)?
Please help!

Where in Europe are you? Prepaid does not roam internationally except Canada, Mexico and select European countries. Unless you are in one of those countries, your prepaid service won’t work. If you are in one of the supported countries, you need the international travel add on.

Yes, I saw the list but just couldn't believe that the service is so limited to only these "European" countries. This is ridiculous to say the least!

blame the countries not at&t, at&t would love to roam everywhere, they just arent authorized to do so or the phones arent compatible with their network

@HannaV

Postpaid has roaming agreements with everyone but Cuba.  Prepaid has limited agreements.

If you had a phone compatible with Wi-Fi calling, and it had been configured while in the states, then it may have been possible to receive texts while on Wi-Fi.  I've not tested this since when I was last out of the US, one time I had a postpaid plan where I paid for roaming.  The other time on ATT Prepaid I removed the SIM and used a local UK SIM (ATT Prepaid didn't offer roaming then).

@HannaV Not too long ago prepaid didn’t roam internationally anywhere except Canada and Mexico. Those European countries were only added in the last year or two.

My UK/France trip was in 2018, before this expansion.  And I don't think France was included.  Sure hurts battery life when phones are used for photos and navigation :)

Up until a couple years ago, international roaming was risky, especially on postpaid.  Went on an Alaska trip, with 1 night in Canada.  In spite of my warnings, my step mother took her phone out of airplane mode.  I think quickly over $100 in data charges.  I think she negotiated it down with ATT to a lower number by claiming ignorance.  With prepaid, this is harder to do since you either have to have a balance available, or get a plan.
