Prepaid SIM questions

Hi,

I have some questions regarding prepaid plan:

1.) is there a eSIM available?

2.) how is the data speed in Canada? On your website it says it can be reduced due to heavy load. Can anyone report about this?

3.) I am from Europe and will be in the US/Canada for 3 weeks. Anything that I should know? Like prepaid is only available for residents or stuff like that?

regards

I have an iphone. But I don‘t understand what you mean wirh this sentence.

Read...

I didn‘t know they SHIP eSIMs: isn‘t it just a file you get via email and import it into your phone?

The do not.   Please Re read

so you suggest going to an AT&T store once we are arrived and pay cash for AT&T prepaid SIM (or eSIM)?

You don't need to do that for esim.  Read the link.

You can go to att.com to see the cost of plans. You will be paying full price because you will not use autopay. Purchase AT&T refill cards that will cover the cost of the service plan. Or use a credit card.

The unlimited data plan offered on AT&T's website is always deprioritized

The 15 gig plan is not deprioritized.

For what phone?  iPhone, yes.  Android may not be permitted at all.

2.) how is the data speed in Canada? On your website it says it can be reduced due to heavy load. Can anyone report about this?

At& t has roaming partners, but does not provide service in Canada.  The quality and speed will entirely depend on where you are connected and if there is network congestion.  There is no assurance of top speed data on plans that are always depriotized in the USA or Canada.

3.) I am from Europe and will be in the US/Canada for 3 weeks. Anything that I should know? Like prepaid is only available for residents or stuff like that?

Anyone can purchase prepaid. I always suggest people use prepaid refill cards or cash, no auto pay, and not use your own debit or credit card.  This is to avoid being charged repeatedly after you return to your own country. It is very difficult to turn off auto pay because you will not be able to log in once you leave the United States

prepaid does not refund. Please make sure you are bringing a compatible phone.

Thank you for your quick reply!

Regarding 1.) eSIM card:
Are they available for prepaid plans? If this is the case I could already order them online before flying to the US.

Or wouldn't you recommend that because of difficulty of turn off autopay from Europe (after the journey)?

Yes you can use an e Sim on prepaid on an iPhone.

You cannot order an esim online, AT&T does not ship them and you can't activate AT&T service outside of the United states. If you are using an iPhone you do not need to go to an AT&T store you can activate and select AT&T as your service provider on the phone.

Do not use auto pay! You cannot manage your AT&T account from outside of the United States you will have no access.  The two-factor authentication will send a text to the phone and you will have no service in Europe, so no text, no access, can't login

Hi Duffy6, we are here to answer your eSIM inquiry!

Compatible Apple devices for AT&T eSIMs are:

  1. Apple Watch Series 3 GPS + Cellular and newer
  2. iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max (and newer)
  3. Apple iPad Pro 11-inch + Cellular and newer (uses eSIM; no longer use Apple SIM).

Shop our Prepaid plans and check out the features included for the best plan for you and/or your family. For iPhone customers, start eSIM download (requires Wi-Fi/Internet access) process from the Settings menu:

        1. Go to Settings.
        2. Tap AT&T Cellular Plan Ready to be Installed.
        3. If this option is not presented, the customer can also attempt to retrieve the eSIM by following these steps:
          1. Go to Settings.
          2. Go to Cellular.
          3. Tap Add a plan.
        4. Tap Continue.
    • Some activation systems pre-populate the device EID after entering the IMEI. If the EID does not pre-populate following the entry of IMEI, simply enter/scan EID into EID field.

If this doesn't help, please visit our nearest AT&T Store like our ACE formerlyknownas suggested to get help with eSIM purchase and installation.
