Paid my bill on the 9th. Tried to upgrade to another plan this morning, wouldn't take credit card and completely lost the original plan.

I paid my bill on the 9th, ran out of data and tried to upgrade to a higher plan, and in doing so I couldn't get my credit card to run. Apparently my old plan was lost, even though I had 3 weeks left. Now I have no phone service and can't connect to internet anywhere hardly. What do I do to get the get the time owed to me back.?

Hello @Acgrant28, we're happy to help with information on Prepaid plan changes and charges. 


If you’re on an AT&T PREPAID monthly plan, we suggest only making changes the day before your current plan expires. This way, you won't lose any of the remaining services of your current plan, including Rollover Data or your high-speed data usage allowance.


In addition, to the helpful information provided by @formerlyknownas. You are able to call 611 from your device for support or follow these steps to manage your Prepaid plan online. 

  1. Go to
  2. At the top of the page, select Plans.
  3. Next to the rate plan you’d like to use, select Change to this plan.
  4. Follow the prompts to change your plan.

Keep in mind: The initial plan costs will be paid upfront when you change your plan. AT&T PREPAID monthly plans have no annual contract and no credit check, if you change your plan the old plan and balances will be lost so be sure to change your plan a day before expiry. When you change your plan, the old plan terminates and you lose any remaining days. There is no time owed you, there is nothing to get back. You terminated it when you changed your plan. The new plan starts as soon as you pay for it. You just need to figure out another way to pay for it or try your credit card again.

If you call 611, you should be able to get through to prepaid support. They may be willing to put you back on your previous plan without any additional funds.

Please be aware that this is how all prepaid service works it doesn't matter who is providing the service to you.  Prepaid plans don't prorate like postpaid when you change plans mid cycle. You prepay for a plan.  If you change your plan you are throwing away the plan you have in favor of a new plan which you must pay for in full.
