Can I recieve SMS messages with prepaid ATT, from other countries? (I am in US and sender is in Europe)

Hi all,

When I search online, all I find is just recieving text messages when abroad. That is NOT what I am looking for. 

Im in US, just wanted to make sure, if my bank in europe can send me a verification code on my prepaid line or not. Currently they were not able to but I was wondering if there is setting I need to adjust or do I need a separate add-on even just to get messages or even need to move to postpaid plan for this?
