16GB, 12-month plan rollover data?

As was officially confirmed in another thread, the 16GB, 12-month plan shows up as 8GB + 8GB bonus on the account when activated. This is not how the plan is listed, where it just simply states "includes 16GB high speed data" (doesn't say anything about a base and bonus amount). So as long as the monthly "base" amount of data is actually 16GB, it doesn't matter to me how the system handles it.

That said, if I theoretically use no data at all in a month, I would expect that full 16GB to rollover to the next month (for a theoretically maximum amount of 32GB). Can someone confirm this to be true?

We can help shed some light on how our 12-month plan works for AT&T PREPAID, @mrmartin86.

As mentioned in the previous thread, this plan comes with an 8GB bonus which doubles your data each month. To answer your question, no, the bonus data does not roll over.

Here's how bonus data works

  • Is systematically applied and can't be manually added.
  • Is applied at the group level on Mobile Share rate plans and at the line-level for all other rate plans.
  • Is stackable.
  • If given in the middle of a bill period is the full bonus data allotment for the partial month.
  • Does not rollover.

Thanks for getting back to me Sydne and clarifying. Does this mean that the most we can have in any given month is theoretically 24GB (8GB base + 8GB rollover + 8GB bonus)?

I find this very misleading because the plan says it is 16GB, and any unused data is available to rollover. Nowhere in the plan offer, not even the fine print, state this 16GB plan is "8GB plus a 8GB bonus". Just like on the other 8GB plan, if you didn't use that 8GB, it would rollover to the next month, giving to a total of 16GB. Here is how the "legal stuff" reads (underlined pertinent parts for quick reference):

  • Data: Includes 16GB high speed data. After high-speed data is used, speeds are reduced to max of 128Kbps for the rest of 30-day term. International data roaming may be reduced to 2G speeds. See att.com/broadbandinfo for details on our network management policies. If 16GB data allowance is depleted, a Data Add-On for use in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada is available for an additional charge (3GB for $20, 1GB for $10) and is good for 30 days.
  • Mobile hotspot: Use is allowed.
  • Rollover Data: Unused high-speed data from your plan rounds up to the nearest megabyte (MB) and carries over for one 30-day renewal when your plan renews on time. Unused Rollover Data automatically expires after one renewal period, or with any plan change (such as changing data amounts, cancellation, or balance expiration). Rollover Data is used after your monthly high-speed plan allowance or any Data Add-On.

So why is this plan not a true base of 16GB as the plan clearly lists it as? Either that, or the bonus data should be allowed to rollover just like the regular data amount.

I also find this misleading.  Would my states attorney general agree?  Perhaps.  If a given states AG isn't pursuing a case they may know of and share ongoing cases and/or forward an inquiring consumers information to same.  Ask me how I know Direct TV

It's more than misleading it's false advertising. If you comb through everything about this plan offer, nowhere does it say it's 8 GB Plus 8 GB bonus. In every place online it's specifically says it is 16 GB. I cannot find any place where there is fine print that describes it as anything other than 16 GB

File the complaint.
