Will a 4G phone keep working after February 2022?

Is your phone an AT&T-branded phone?  When it boots up does it show the AT&T logo? 

I ask because AT&T has two lists, one for AT&T-branded phone, and another list for unlocked phones.  The SM-A102U is only on the AT&T-branded list.

Phone must support AT&T's Voice over LTE (VoLTE, HD Voice). This should mean a minimum of 4G LTE for voice calling.

Check their official whitelist of supported phones. Make sure to match the exact model.

These phones will still work on our network after we phase out 3G in February 2022 (att.com)

AT&T currently lists Galaxy A10e (specific model numbers A102U, A102UC, and
A102U1) as supported.  If your phones specific model number SH-xxxxx matches one of the above, it should work, but apparently your IMEI isn't in AT&T's database.

However, it's more likely that your specific model number differs subtly from one of those and it will not work on AT&T's network for more than a few weeks.

You do not need a "5G" phone.  But, as Juniper said, you do need one that supports and has been certified for AT&T's Voice over LTE (VoLTE), also known as HD Voice, service.  A 5G phone probably won't be affected by the LTE shutdown, which is probably somewhat less than a decade in the future.

Okay. Thank you for the replies. My model is A102U. It would be misleading if AT&T indeed doesn't support a phone that they say will support, but I guess when my phone stops working, I will need to buy a new one. 

Ohhhh, now I get it. You are right. Mines is an unlocked phone from Boost Mobile and the model is not listed in the second list. So it'll stop working. Thank you very much for the information. 

JefferMC, how did you find the second link? I was only aware of the first link and that's how I determined that I wouldn't need another phone. This is where I found the first list and the page just reads that my phone is good to go: Use Your Own Phone or Tablet with AT&T PREPAID - Wireless Customer Support (att.com)

I feel I was wronged by AT&T. I will go back to a customer rep to see if they can do anything about it.

Your Prepaid plan need to include 5g access. The unlimited plus plan has 5g access. You can review our Prepaid plans for all the features.

I still have issues with this list and wonder how things will actually work out.  For instance, some prepaid carriers sell phones, such as the Galaxy a10e, that works on that carrier no matter which of the 3 networks the user is subscribed to.  So that phone actually works with ATT's network now.  I can't test if it works on ATT prepaid without spending money, though, since I'm using an eSIM.

Don't know about Boost, though :)
