I am constantly getting a MMS Timeout error

The last couple weeks I have been constantly getting a MMS Timeout error and when I tap to try and retrieve it, nothing happens.  It also seems to be killing my battery, so I've stopped trying to retrieve them.  I've never had this problem before and it's just getting annoying.

I'm on an HTC Desire 626

A family member was having the same problem so after doing some homework and experimenting, it turns out the culprit was Textra that was causing the MMS Timeout.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hello @ButtonMasher,

Thanks for reaching out! We'd love to assist.

Just so we know, did you recently switch from a different carrier to us? Typically this sort of error pops up when you switch carriers, and you're using a branded phone from a different carrier. However, if you only recently started receiving this error message, let us know if any changes to your account/device have happened before the issue began.

You can also try some basic troubleshooting, such as restarting your device, and checking your messaging settings.

We look forward to your response!

No, I have been on your service for years.  I haven't made any changes to the phone.

I did test something, though.  I don't normally carry data, as I just don't need it (I'm on your PrePaid).  I bought the 250 mb block for the month and ever since then I haven't seen the error.  Prior to getting the data plan, though, I was getting the MMS Timeout daily and it was killing my battery.

Thanks for letting us know, @ButtonMasher.

You're right! Data is the solution. In order to send/receive MMS you will need plan or an add on that includes data hence the MMS timeouts, and poor battery performance.

We encourage you to check out About picture and video messaging for more information.

We're glad everything is functioning properly now. Please let us know if we can provide additional support. Take care!

Yes, but I never had this problem before.  I've been using the prepaid for 5 years now and never had this problem until a couple weeks ago....
