Unlocking phone that was upgraded
My husband is coming home for a month and is need of a new phone. We currently have a phone number on our acct that is on hold for military suspension. I spoke with a rep that says if we were to upgrade and get him a new phone we would not be able to use it at all. He will only be home for a month before he leaves to go back to South Korea. Also I need to upgrade my phone but I leave for a PCS in May of 2023 to go to England for 3 years. I was told if I upgraded that I would not be able to use my phone overseas unless I get a plan that costs $10 a day. Which I refuse to pay. I am just trying to get clarification. A couple years ago ATT had no problem unlocking a phone that I had upgraded before we moved overseas where I could use it there.

Military cancellation would require that you either return the phone or pay it off. When there is such a short turnaround, you'd also be dealing with a phone that you have to unlock with a deployment orders in order to use it on a different service provider.
Purchasing a phone through AT&T is not going to work for either one of you.
Buy a phone, unlocked directly from the manufacturer.
You can reactivate your service for the short-term you're back in the united states. Don't forget to go back into military cancellation with your deployment orders before you leave.
