Device Trade In not eligible

I recently bought the S22 Ultra under the impression I was going to receive a $800 credit. I sent my old device in and got an email saying it was received by the warehouse. After a couple month of not seeing the credit I called support and they informed me that the activation lock was still on and the phone is not eligible. I get that, maybe I didn't didn't follow the instruction to the letter and messed up a step. But I was also told that I would not be getting the old device back. Did I really just get robbed for my old device or is there something that can be done?

Even if it was unlocked, they will just say the screen is broken or it doesn't power up. Don't feel bad, i got clipped for $1200 and a pristine s9+ which they say i never sent, then when i pressed they changed that to it had a broken screen.

Att doesn't have the phone/s.  You sent them to Hyla mobile in Tennessee.   They are not returnable.

Thanks for the replies. I will be paying off the phone immediately and switching providers eventhough I'm sure they all do this. I guess that's what happens when 4 companies corner the market.

Question: AT&T has the promotion now saying "Any device, any year, any condition". I just upgraded based on them saying new phone would be free or greatly reduced with the trade in. Before it processed the order it asked several questions including "Is the screen cracked" I answered that it was and it still accepted it as an eligible upgrade. Are you guys suggesting that when this all shakes out, they will not be accepting my trade in phone after all and I will owe the full amount on the upgrade?
