Bring my own device and keep my current plan

If I pay off the balance of my current installment Agreement with AT&T for my current phone, can I bring a different unlocked phone to my account to replace my current phone and keep A) My same plan: and B) My same phone number?
I understand there is a $30 activation fee.

You can switch to a different phone anytime you want whether your installment plan is paid off or not. Just move the SIM card to the new phone. There is no fee to do that.

Will the new phone information show up in my online account and on the mobile app for the new phone?
also I'm switching from an android phone to an iPhone. I guess this would have been helpful information to start.
thank you for your answer

An iPhone should update on your account automatically. I bought the sim free version of the XR and just moved my SIM card from a 6s. My account updated automatically within minutes.
