att trade in process is meh

The ATT trade in process is overall a mess:

- In the package, the instructions contained stated to sent phone back with the included shipping label (which was actually a BRE label for returning the new device if you have buyer's remorse).

- Had to request a trade-in kit, fortunately came quickly

- Cannot insure trade in package as label is created by ATT

- Package has been "moving in network" for several days now, no updates

- Seems like a lot of other's have this problem

- Honestly if it does go through after this phone is paid off I will probably be switching back to Verizon. Trade in processes seems to be made purposefully nebulous, which honestly is enough for me to switch carriers.

- Obviously, if package gets lost in transit I will most definitely switch to Verizon immediately and pay off both my wife's phone and mine. It is insane they do not let you insure the package, as we know USPS is mostly garbage and they continue to use USPS knowing well they lose phones. One could say it is a USPS problem and not ATT, but not really if it is the only carrier allowed to return trade-in phones to ATT, if I had a choice I would pay UPS myself to ship it back, but the label contains specific information for the trade in so...

Overall, even if it pans out, the process is not great and does not seem to have improved. Likely back to Verizon!

I don’t disagree with your assessment but how is Verizon any different? Isn’t their trade in process pretty much the same as ATT’s? A quick google search reveals just as many trade in complaints for Verizon as there are here.

Lol...

The trade-in process isn't going to be any different with a different service provider or a different retailer.

I purchased a new pixel directly from Google.  My purchased phone came with a return label. I also got an email saying that my trade-in package would follow shortly. About a week later I got a slightly smaller box with a padded envelope inside and instructions on how to package my phone, use both the envelope and the box and the label and mail.

My trade in phone was mailed back to the same place, HYLA Mobile in TENNESSEE.

I did receive an email once my phone arrived in Tennessee. It took about 2 months for my credits to start.

Both probably are not the best but I found Verizon’s to not be as nebulous on several previous trade ins. Otherwise other reasons for switching weren’t enough to make up for the hassle to switch but they have an overall better network.
But it seems like the process is purposely difficult for ATT (or just lack of attention) to the program.  Nonetheless, a 1000$ phone loss would certainly tip the scales in Verizon’s favor. I’m willing to pay the Verizon premium as I had not previously experienced issues with their trade in program (not to say they do not exist), but it was much simpler.
I mean, no sane person would just blow off a 1000 dollar trade in deal, even if it is USPS as the culprit the lack of shipping choice puts at least some of the blame on ATT.
