AT&T store employee promised full trade-in value after inspecting phone but store did not honor it when I brought it back in

I decided to buy an iPhone 14 Pro after the AT&T store rep inspected my iPhone 12 mini and told me it was eligible for the full $700 trade-in promo currently running. When I finally brought the phone back the next day, I was told by another employee that I would only get $350. I would not have purchased the phone if I had been informed of this. I kept the trade-in and contacted the original rep who said he would look into it. I never heard back from him.

What recourse do I have at this point? If I can't get what I was promised, I would prefer to return the new phone and just switch carriers. Is this even an option anymore now that the line has been moved to the new phone? This whole experience feels like a classic bait and switch.

You have 14 days to return the phone but you won’t get your old phone back. The folks in store don’t determine the trade in value that is done by a 3rd party recycler

I kept my old phone when they said the trade in value would not be what I was promised. I guess I have no choice but to return the new phone and switch carriers then.

The promotion, all its details, and what phones are accepted for full trade-in value is listed and published online for anyone to read before they make a purchase.

Read the promotion!

The  promotion shows the 12 mini is good for $700 trade-in value against an iPhone 14 series

Unless your phone is somehow damaged, defective or in some other way does not value high enough for $700 in trade-in credits it should not have dropped to $350

And if you're sitting here looking at the screen after having returned the iPhone 14 and paid a $55 restock fee, with your mouth hanging open and annoyance, because you're 12 mini was mint and working perfectly My reply is:

Always read the promotions

AT&T deals are not a mystery.   They are published on its phone sales page. You just click on the little blue banner at the top right of whatever phone you're interested in, click on see all the details scroll to the bottom and open all the arrow points and you can see absolutely every condition, requirement, and how the promotion is paid out and the long list of phones that are eligible for full credit, mid-credit if there is one and 350 if they don't make the cut.
