Huawei security issues

I bought a prepaid Huawei Ascend XT2. It is a nice phone. I have been reading about security issues that at&t and verizon are being pressured by the government to stop selling Huawei and ZTE. Kind of sounds political to me. Has anyone been following this news? I am concerned about security although I don't do any business on my phone but still... Should I return the phone? Thanks for any opinions and advise.
